You know you get good gas milage when...

... your trip odometer reads ~260 miles and you've only used 3/5 of your tank. (*I have the small tank too).

When I finally hit the mid point, I was at about 215. I figure I'm getting in the high 30s.

I'd say that 80% of them are highway miles. Cruising at 75mph (3k rpms).

Something is wrong with your engine (or will be shortly because the only possible way I can conceive of getting 8mpg is by never letting the thing drop below 4500).

              Premium gas prices are rediculous.

i get a steady 21-22mpg in my ix. (300+ miles a tank). I just got 320 miles on a tank today, most I ever got was 360. I make sure to give my car a ferrari tune up every day too, no granny driving here.

if you're getting 8mpg with an M20, something is seriously wrong with your engine, or you drive around in 2nd gear on the freeway...

How big is your fuel tank? When I fill up I put between 10-11 gallons in.
