I have had a K40 installed in a Jetta (mighty fast one), a Porsche 993, and a Mercedes E320. Never once did it stand a chance to my V1 at the time. K40 has not updated there sytem in a number of years, theys till don't offer POP protection, and while their K detection is superior, the KA was much lacking in the cars I drove. The K40 was designed to be sleek and covert, in turn giving up some of its usefullness. I have yet to be happy in a K40 installed car, infact all the above cars recieved other detectors.

I would also like to note that K40 has two different systems; one is a standard windshield mount piece and one is a concealed display system. When caravaning to a meet a couple of years ago, a good friend with his K40 was behind me (we were being rediculously stupid) when my V1 shined 2 KA bogeys ahead. I dumped my brakes considering the speed we were going, which was immediately followed by a Nextel "WTF was that asshole". About that time we rolled by two State Troopers sitting in a median. His radar didn't go off until the troopers were in clear visibility.

I don't have any K40 concealed/V1 comparisons, but the K40 just generally annoys me. Its beeps are much higher pitched then the V1's and it provides little to no difference IMO. I have used an 8500X50 and it was good IMO, but the arrows frustrated me. "Once you live with the arrows, you will never go back".

There is an easy way to settle this- Go to your local thrift shop and get a couple of popular science magazines from 1974 to see if they are advertised. My uncle was a car dealer back then and he had one in his car.

Ha, those guys are testing this stuff in my back yard. I feel special.

I use a V1 all the time, and for several trips to and from la - vegas - phx, and that damn thing picks up cops from a such a distance. One time, I swear that thing was chirping for 3-4 minutes, finally we saw the cop on the opposite side of the road driving towards us. I was in disbelief that the V1 could do such a good damn job.

My boss got some pos cobra (it was on of their high line models ), I laughed at him. He was like 'I'm not paying $400 for some silly arrows.', he got 4 tickets like a month later (at one time), then I laughed at him again. He should of got a V1.

I found out that K40 has the attitude that "no press" is "good press", so they stay out of any comparisons, and apparently have sued people for derogatory public statements...

I cannot find any info on the early days of K40, but the Escorts preceded the Valentines by quite some time. Valentine started the company named after himself in about 1992. He was fired from Escort in 1984.

K40 was well established by then. Keep in mind I have been installing K40s since about 1982.

There are Story's (just story's mind you) of huey pilots in vietnam switching there standard issue RD's to the current valentine models normally sold to personal aircraft consumers... i doubt this is a paid off test.--- i have used a k40, And owned a valentine v3. I like the valentine :)
