I would still really like to see K40 represented. I would have more faith in their testing.

They have been around far longer, and IMO, are far better.

Luke my car came equipped with a K40 UN-3000, Sonaradar. It seems to work but I don't have an owners manual and don't know anything about it. It has saved me in several occasions. Today I was playing around with the wiring they wired it to the left tweeter for audio alert I want to install a separate buzzer or something any idea what I can use? It has one light, to the left it lights amber to the right green. I'm sure one is for city one for HW.

Anybody have one of these, all I can find is a review and that it was like $1,200 new?

No dissapointments needed. The K40/Calibre is a great system, and in its hayday it was the best IMO. I just don't think they have kept up the same standards. In 1995, if you wanted protection, you went K40 or else. Valentine and Escort were just standard issue detectors. In today's world though, Radar and Laser are becoming so sensative that companies are constantly having to redevelop to keep up. I just don't get that feeling from K40. I too would like to see a real world test, but just as you said getting a car to test with an $1800 radar system isn't an easy task, and im sure K40 isn't just handing systems out.

You find a modern K40 equipped car, and I will ship my V1 (1.8+POP) to the location for real world testing. I would go with a K40 if they had a better audible signal and if it picked up as well IMO.

OK, so let me set my end of this straight:

1. I want to see a test of radar detectors that includes K40. I really like the invisibility factor, and would like to see if they are as good as they say.

2. I clearly remember "the hot new radar detector" coming out called Escort. Read about it in all the magazines, etc. I had been installing K40s for several years by then, as well as their amplifiers and speakers. K40 was supposed to be the shit...once again, I never saw the two of them compared head to head.

3. Michael Valentine MAY have been desigining radar detectors before 1976, but the article I posted a link to states clearly that Michael and his father started Cincinatti Microwave in 1976. That article is featured in the Cincinatti Business Journal. The final paragraph on the first page:

In that initial public offering, CMI sold nearly 1.9 million shares at $7.62 per share, drumming up $13 million in cash. Most of that went to pay off debt in the form of a loan used to buy out shares owned by Mike Valentine, according to the company's 1985 annual report. Valentine and his father had founded the firm in 1976.

So, here is the deal: I have never owned a radar detector, ever.

I have installed dozens of BEL, hardwired (hard to call that an install) several V1s and about 20 or so K40s. $1800 radar detectors are kind of rare...

I can sign up as a dealer for Calibre (the new name for K40) with nothing more than a phone call...but I do not know if they are top of the heap still.

From what I am hearing here, they are not...thus the reason I want to hear about it from the real testers.

I am very dissapointed to hear Wes's experience...it is a shame they didnt perform as well as the V1. I am not doubting his experience in any way, I am just dissapointed.

K40 has incredible dealer support, better than anyone I have ever had in any product category, ever. I would really like to carry their product...unless they suck.

As far as the hassle between Bimmernaut and myself, well, this is the internet, right? He believes one thing, the Cincinatti Business Journal publishes another. We all know the media is kind of cracked, but I will take their word for it.

So, NO, you are WRONG....don't call bullshit on me! And even after his "alledged hijinx" regarding the guys of LIDAR, (what a dumb move that was, shit!) the facts the Mr. Peterson wrote of Michael Valentine getting fired from the company HE started are well known, and public record.

Not to walk on your experience as an ICE/Radar installer cause I know you certainly have it(and are excellent at it to boot), but its certainly plausible for someone to work on technology without it belonging to a business.

Most products that are new to the market are engineered in someones basement/home lab, and then once they have a working idea, a business is formed for patent and liability purposes.
