The arrows are the best feature of the V1. Without the arrows, I am totally lost.

The only thing I don't like about the V1 is that it is hard to distinguish which type of radar you are being hit with. Fortunately, the difference is audible, so as you use it more you can instantly recognize it. When you first have a V1 you find yourself looking which light is lit....

v1 received the POP update, wonder if that one had it? i dont speed like an asshole everyday, but its helpful for the city cops that just drive around with radar on. chippies usually require a visual confirmation, they dont radar as much as they used to.

I find it hard to believe that you are slamming the V1 without having actually used it? Want to borrow mine for a week? :D Not like Imma get a ticket in the Land Cruiser.

I have used a few different detectors and the V1 really is amazing. Is the sensitivity REALLY that much different than the STi or the 8500? No. They are all pretty close when used in real-life situations. What sets the V1 apart from the rest of the crowd, is the fact that you can locate WHERE the radar is coming from, and how many of them there are.

The arrows saved my ass once when I was younger/dumber. I got hit with laser from behind, going WELLLLLLL over the speed limit. Knowing that I would probably get arrested if I pulled over, I stepped on it and GTF out of there. If I didnt have the arrows, I would have assumed that the officer was in front of me, and slammed on my brakes back down to 55.

I am with Luke though, I wonder why they didnt test the K40? Probably because they are hobbyists/nerds and dont have enough $ for the K40 to buy it and test it haha. I am going to go onto their forum and ask.

ok, first off, k40 has NOT been around longer, Valentine radar detection has been around since the vietnam era. There are Story's (just story's mind you) of huey pilots in vietnam switching there standard issue RD's to the current valentine models normally sold to personal aircraft consumers... i doubt this is a paid off test.--- i have used a k40, And owned a valentine v3. I like the valentine :)

In Socal, don't even both with the K band, nobody uses that shit except for door openers. I'm pretty sure that's the case in most areas of the country too.

Just so you know, Mike Valentine started making "Escort" detectors in 1976...well after Veit Nam. That story is complete bullshit.

I cannot find any info on the early days of K40, but the Escorts preceded the Valentines by quite some time. Valentine started the company named after himself in about 1992. He was fired from Escort in 1984.

K40 was well established by then. Keep in mind I have been installing K40s since about 1982.

Here is an excerpt from an article by Craig Peterson @ www.radartest.com
In 1984 Mike Valentine's partner and co-founder of CMI, Jim Jaeger, assumed control of the company and quickly showed Mike the door. While Valentine sat on the sidelines, bound by a non-compete agreement with CMI, Bedard generated puff pieces in Car and Driver promoting Mr. Valentine such as "Revenge of the Nerds, Automotive Division", (May 1985 issue) and he wrote the operator manual for the G Analyst performance computer with whose development Mike occupied himself while cooling his heels. When the non-compete agreement expired in 1992, it was back to business as usual.
In the April 1992 issue Mr. Bedard wrote the story "They Have Lasers". The laser used in the story, a target vehicle and most of the information were provided by the person on which the story focused: Mike Valentine.

I do have yet to see a dissatisfied K40 customer.
I found out that K40 has the attitude that "no press" is "good press", so they stay out of any comparisons, and apparently have sued people for derogatory public statements...

Ha, those guys are testing this stuff in my back yard. I feel special.

I use a V1 all the time, and for several trips to and from la - vegas - phx, and that damn thing picks up cops from a such a distance. One time, I swear that thing was chirping for 3-4 minutes, finally we saw the cop on the opposite side of the road driving towards us. I was in disbelief that the V1 could do such a good damn job.

My boss got some pos cobra (it was on of their high line models ), I laughed at him. He was like 'I'm not paying $400 for some silly arrows.', he got 4 tickets like a month later (at one time), then I laughed at him again. He should of got a V1.

Michael Valentine was making radar detection for Cincinatti Microwave DURING vietnam. Dont call bullshit and list Craig Peterson as any Credible source of information.
