    WTF Borla exhaust

The previous owner installed a borla catback on my 325i.

I don't mind the sound, but from 1,000 - 3,000 rpm the tone is loud and obnoxious. Anything above or below that rpm range is quiet and the exhaust sounds great.

WTF exhaust design? Does anyone else have the Borla exhaust and notice this? I'm thinking about switching to the stock exhaust.

Most Borla exhaust cans are tiny, so they do very little to damp the sounds coming out of your engine. If you want something quieter, get a larger muffler.

Or I could just trade someone for their stock muffler. I don't see a cat-back being worth it anyway. Maybe for sound, but buying a cat-back for performance is laughable on these cars.

I have a tiny 3in borla xr-1 muffler... I want to upgrade to something a little less loud soon. But I like loud cars when you don't drive them often also...

I have a Bullet muffler, which is supposed to be identical to the Borla. All stainless, $65, and sounds mean. I ALWAYS got complements on the sound.

Does yours have the same issue with louder sound between 1k and 3k rpms?

No, but I have an eta so maybe the tone with single piping is different. It sounded like my stock 325is does now before I put the exhaust on though, so I don't think Borla on a 325i would sound much different.

What kind of internal design does yours have? Mine looks like a stock resonator. It's just a straight through pipe with holes around the outside. You can see in one end and out the other. It's pretty quiet, actually, for the fact that's it's just a straight-pipe ordeal. I removed my resonator, which was stupid, as all it did was make it pop and gurgle when I rev down. But, I don't have an O2 sensor so it's running rich, and my cats are probably clogged, LOL maybe you should go to somebody else for information.

Can you post a sound clip? I have an ansa sport exhaust (classic ferrari nut) with a free flow cat. It sounds good. I alwys liked the ansa sound. I would like to hear the borla. Mine has a meaner sound than stock but not too over the top. Don't think I'd switch it but I may for a borla?

Yeah I should be able to do that. Give me some time and I'll post up a sound clip tonight.
