Well, the thing is they put a lien on your license (basically a temporary hold on it until you take care of your FTA [failure to appear]) and you pay the insane fine and go to the DMV and get it re-instated. Its not like they send you a letter in the mail saying its suspended. I had that done on a no-front-plate ticket in Burbank. Cost me $600.

No sticking tickets here. I've fought all mine (on my own) and won.
p.s. haven't really done anything super illegal (and got caught) yet.

Any of you washington guys have experience with a suspended license. From what I gather the state doesnt need to notify you when your license gets revoked. I have had a few friends get tickets for driving with a suspended and they swear up and down they never knew it was suspended.

Yeah. I actually thought about my post after the fact. I called a friend down at the courthouse and she indeed got arrested. She probably left that important detail out of the story about why she didn't come into work for 2 days because she thought that she would get fired. She claimed that she was getting all of that mess straightened out when she probably got taken to the slammer.

well shit, I was paced on the 22 so I didn't even bother fighting.
Actually I thought about it right up until the morning of court, couldn't quite drag my ass out of bed that early, wife told me that I'd have to pay court fees if I didn't win, and figured fuck it since that wouldn't save me much if they reduced the fine and then charged me fees anyway, pulled the laptop over and paid the damn thing online. Traffic court next week...

sure would love to know how I could have gotten out of that one...

If you don't live in one of those areas where the court system gives you partial credit for showing up, you could have appealed it. That way you can prolong the time it takes for you to have to pay the fine and the time it takes for the violation to hit your driving record. Plus that would be one more opportunity for the cop to miss court. I am not sure if this is true in every city but in most cities that I have been to, if the cop does not show up in court, the case is dismissed.

The court systems in DC are somewhat laxed to the point where if you show up pleading guilty with a half-decent excuse they let you go with half the fine and no driving record reporting. And then in Maryland I have seen situations where the court room is so crowded that the judge will offer to let everyone plead guilty and pay $20 to forget the whole thing. That usually clears out 3/4 of the court room.
