I searched, has anyone DIY painted there rear spoiler? I want to do it myself but wanted to see what you guys thought of paint selections and techniques.
The biggest issue would be getting rid of the cracks if it has any showing .
You would really need to incorporate some filler with your prep work to eliminate them completely .
On the painting you can get good results with a good quality rattle can if you are going black .
For other colors I would say use a spray gun or let a shop do it for best results .
for sure, well what kinda filler would you recommend? From what I can see there isnt really any cracks its just faded red and the original clear is coming off. I am going to paint it flat black or a black that matches the side molding look.
If the cracks are very minute and you wont plan on squeezing it once its mounted on the trunk then don't worry about them .
For the black I would say do not go with a flat black ..always turns out looking like a dried out POS .
Using a semi-gloss would yield better results .
trim black works best. duplicolor trim black is cheap and looks nice - I did my plate filler with it more than 4 years ago and it still looks fantastic. otherwise there's SEM, Dupont, etc. but duplicolor is easier to get ahold of..
use a paint that flexes or you will be HOSEDDDDDDD with MOOOREEE Cracks, make sure yo use a filler that ALSO flexes if you decide to fix the cracks, there are multiple products on the market for this...goto a local jobber
bah, i painted an IS spoiler with regular trim paint after sanding the surface a lil just to scuff it, and 2 yrs later it still looks just as good. but if yer anal like trent likes it, then you prolly wanna do it the rite way.

FRONT VALENCE IS ZENDER!!! STOP FILLING MY PM BOX PPL!!!
Go with bumper coating, Here is the one I used. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...egoryCode=3461 It works great. It flexes a lil, so it will work good on the sapoiler. There are a few different colors, and it is not flat.
