I've always wanted to do somehting like this with my MG. Max torque from 0 RPM FTMFW!
Dude ! remeber high school ? if you ran a 12 volt system, the current would melt almost anything, you need a higher voltage to keep amp draw in manageable levels, remeber these guys used 40 hp dc motors.

And Nicads are available, but at what cost ?

thread from the dead, but interesting nonetheless... Shell will be limited. Something else will come out that will squash them... just like coal was the energy source to use years decades/centuries ago...

They still own the Ovonics patents and are not going to make them ever.

Interesting factoid. Sounds like buying out the competition, and hiding their technology.

          That's neat.

The cool thing about electric motors is they produce full torque from 0 rpm all the way up.

factoid? more like out of the left field, schizophrenic paranoia.

If Ovionics existed and they did have superior technology, no company interested in making money would shut it down, they would be pushing it on everyone to make a big profit. Just like all the "runs on water" hoaxes and other BS the paranoid like to feed on.

Most likely what they made wasn't better than what the competitors were making, or it was better technology but far too expensive, and they went out of business or sold to another company who wanted the patents for future product development. Not some imaginary conspiracy theory to take over the world and hijack the superior technologies.

Unless we are talking about a oil company ruining an alternate fuel (should I say energy) company?

                      Are you sure?

Better check under the bed and in the closets.

                      This is a true story:

In the early 80s there was this grad student at Cal Polly (weird guy, I can't remember his name to save my ass at the moment).

His whole thing was batteries and energy storage. He had this project going trying to develop TMF Batteries ("Thin metal Foil" I think).

He had this job offer from some big ass oil company (Exxon I think) and was in great turmoil over whether or not to take it because it was something like a bigger salary than God gets for running the universe.

Being the Socially Conscious, Raised by Hippies, Northern California kid he was, he turned the job down.

About a month latter he disappeared without a trace.

(now let's wait a few months and see if this story takes off)
I'm Not Right in the Head | Random Rants and other Nonsense1st Order Logic Failure: Association fallacy, this type of fallacy can be expressed as (∃xS : φ(x)) → (∀xS : φ(x)), meaning "if there exists any x in the set S so that a property φ is true for x, then for all x in S the property φ must be true".

I don't understand why everyone is so hung up on electric cars, electricity and bio diesel are merely stop gaps to a better technology i.e hydrogen.

Because hydrogen is now just used as an excuse to keep using oil while we wait for the technology to "develop". (for an indefinite time). Electricity is a known technology.

Wrong. Do you have any idea what it takes to keep hydrogen from leaking everywhere?

Electric cars are the future. The only thing we are waiting for is greater battery technology.

I dream of an electric car with four intependent brushless DC motors, a well programmed controller and at least 150 miles range.

UMM wasnt there one called the EV1 and didn't GM crush em all like 10 years ago?

Lets see what happens to Tesla Motors. Hopefully they wont go under, and at least at this point the larger car companies have more to worry about with what to do with their bailout money. I wish all that bailout money would have gone to Tesla for R&D. Screw the big three, because of mismanagement and lousy product, who buys American cars anymore?
I WOULD BUY A TESLA IN A HEARTBEAT! But Tesla doesn't sell them on the east coast yet.

Yes there was the ev-1 and yes Gm crushed them. But no, it wasn't anything very similar to the car I described. And GM decided to go for hummer and bag the electric car... Look where that got them now.
