    Glad to hear you're alright and that the safety equipment did the job. How many point roll cage is required?

      I believe we are limited to a 6-point cage. I'd have to check the rules to be sure. Mine has been legal since the car started racing in 1999, so I've not had to think about it too much. It is a chro-moly cage. This is one reason we'd rather fix this car than build another. The cage is already done, and done very well. The local cage fabricator costs about $2,000 to install a legal cage into one of these E30s. And that's not even with the more light weight chro-moly material.

          What caused your spin? Can't tell from the video what the surface on the outside of the track is like...

            Right, the change in surface was the problem. Just as I cleared the spinning car, I ran out of track and the outside two wheels were on gravel, with the inner two tires on pavement. That and the slight drizzle caused the car to go into a couple oscillation tank slapper then eventually spinning. If I would have cleared the car, then right then been four wheels on or four wheels off, probably I would have not spun. oh well.

            One reason we record these races is to watch how we react to things, and figure out what might have been done better, should the same situation present itself to us.

            In this case, right when I saw the red/blue car put two wheels off on the left, I lifted off the throttle just in case he were to come back on track. Well sure enough he did, and luckily I had scrubbed some speed and it was easier to control the car and not T-bone the red/blue car that took that long lurid slide. So I got that part right, but the second half didn't go so well. :-(

                    Gravel? Cripes! Maybe your E30 will come back stronger than ever... Again, glad you're ok :grin:

                      Seeing you attempt to steer out of that spin brought back many flashbacks for me.. most recently I spun out on an exit ramp in the rain and I was fighting that wheel the exact same way.

                      All in all, racing is a risky sport. And even though we don't want anyone to get hurt or for their car to get wrecked, thats one of the things that makes racing exciting. Not many people want to admit it, but personally I love to see the accidents in NASCAR. Its exciting to see the 5 to 6 car pileups as they all slide around the track out of control in various positions- One car going sideways, another going backwards, a couple spinning on their roof as the one behind it goes end-over-end about 12 times.. leaving a trail of parts on the track. And then all the drivers walk away from the crash.

                      Thats a lot of fun!

                        What?? Not sure what was so assholeish about that...I was trying to make a light hearted joke like everyone else. Yes, it sucks about his car, and I'd be pissed too, but sometimes humor works. Maybe I misgauged the situation, but judging by Lance's reaction to my comment I think he took it the way I intended. Also, the most important thing here is that Lance is ok. Secondly that the car could be repaired.

                        Lance, if you were offended, I'm sorry...

                            I think most of us like seeing NASCAR accidents for other reasons. ;)

                                That SUCKS...glad everyone was ok. Conditions looked kinda nasty.

                                Sounds bad to say but at least you have the video of the whole thing. If I ever wad up my E30 in a racing incident I would at least want to have it on video.

                                Six years racing in PRO3 and no major hits...that is impressive. Good luck with rebuilding.
