i just did the swap last night but im having truble with the clutch master and slave cylnder! the pedle goes to the floor and wont come back the position? now that i think of it i did forget to put the flywheel spacer in....is that an important thing to the clutch working??

    help please!!!

    thank gary

if you have the brake fluid lines hooked up right, bleed the system (theres a bleeder on the slave), and pump that pedal like mad and it should come back to life

Yeah, you need to bleed the system.

That spacer acts as a washer for the flywheel bolts, and they are stretch bolts... I would consider pulling it apart and putting that in, with new flywheel bolts, at some point. I cherish my legs and drivetrain parts too much to take the chance of that thing coming loose at 6000 rpm's.

Just a pointer, I have found that it is easier and you get a better feel if you remove the slave and bleed it with the bleeder valve pointing straight up, it gets all of the tiny bubbles out. You just need to make sure to have the plunger on something sturdy while you are holding it, and have a second person pump the pedal. I did it all by myself, but I am a BAMF

Please do explain to me how you turned your slave cylinder upside down, without launching the plunger and blowing the seal. I would love to know how everyone does this. I've asked everyone who claimed they have, posted new threads, and nobody has responded. I've had a spongy clutch for 2 months because of this.

The damn clutch line does not allow enough movement for reinstallation upside down, everything interferes with everything... It's not long enough, the solid 90 degree elbow hits the transmission, etc..

So please, if you wouldn't mind....

I did mine simply by putting the plunger on the underside of the car and using my Conan the Barbarian strength to keep it from pushing out.

Edit for useful info: I had a custom Paragon Performance SS braided line from my 6 in the 335i when I did this, and it was about a foot too long, so it obviously made this process much more possible.

                Hey Gary, it's Kegan.

Yeah you need to put that spacer back in.

But the main problem is because you need to bleed it. You need two people to do this... I'm probly coming down on Friday, but if you need me to come up earlier let me know and I'll cruise down there.

i used something that someone made. basically you hook up a air compreesor and only use 5 psi. gotta keep the fluid full and it just forces the fluid out.

I used a pressure bleeder at 15 psi and put 1/2 quart of fluid through, all while fully pumping the clutch pedal. It feels the same as it did before.

Are you saying you didn't turn it upside down and put it back in the transmission?

Did you use new master / slave cylinders. If you got used ones, one might be bad.

Are you serious? What, just strap down the plunger and hope it doesn't slide off to the side or something? That thing has a shit ton of pressure, and I've blown two out already.

Yes of course the thing has a shit ton of pressure.

What you do is you compress the plunger rod into the cylinder body using the ratcheting strap, then pressure bleed the system. Worked fine for me.

yah i called my moms bf, who used to be a bmw machanic and he said pull the slave off the transmission and push the plunger all the way in (like push it against the bottom of the car) and that will get rid of all the bubbles and it wil;l work fine! so i did that and it worked great and still is....
