My ride will be garaged. At least I won't have to pay for gas for a couple of years. I heard Purdue parties were lame, but I'm sure they're better then high school "parties."

The word at my high school is that Purdue throws the best parties. IU may have a reputation, but more people are now heading to West L for fun! One of my Freshmen friends came home on Spring Break, and told me they are definately a blast. I've been too caught up with other things to go, but I hope to the weekend after next. It sucks I've never been up there on the weekend, but I will change that.

Wow, I go to Atlantic City for the weekend and I miss out on a 3 page engineering post. I go to Drexel University for mechanical Engineering, graduating with a 3.4 this June, all I have left is Personal Income Tax and Project Management. I cant find a job either, most of my friends cant. If anyone knows of a pharmaceutical manufacturing supervisor job open, send it along.

          My engineering college advice.

          -Dorms are gay

-Frats are gay, honors or social.

          -The first 3 years suck

          -Join SAE, FSAE, and ASME

-If you didn’t get an A in High School Calculus, don’t bother with engineering

-If your dream is to spin wrenches on a BMW, go to a tech school, except for the very few, engineering is about pencils, not wrenches, unfortunately.

-Do a Co-op, it’s nearly impossible to get a job without Co-op experience.

In the end I second guess myself and think I should have gone to tech school.

            Chris, how was AC? Gamble?

It's a shame not to find a job, but with a ME degree, it gives a whole lot of possibilities. It'd probably qualify you for a lot of different jobs, just not a career if you have trouble to finding one. Like an English degree can supposedly help land a job as _____. just because you graduated college. A ME degree can do that and much more likely. Even though it's not attractive, you could find a short-term job before you land that career. Good luck!

I looked into "spinning wrenches" but I wouldn't want to be a mechanic as a career. I'd like to work with cars, not on them. Plus, science and math is my bag, baby!

How difficult was pulling down the 3.4?
I need a 3.5GPA for free tution, and that's just below what I got in H.S. (But an average of 3.72GPA for math and sciences alone)

What both Chris and Robert said is correct....

              Except this part...
              -The first 3 years suck
All six and a half of mine sucked.

But with what Robert said about jobs in other fields...definitely. My dad hired an entry level M.E. to restructure a database or something, because people like the way engineers think, they're very process oriented. My dad also works with a gal that has her B.S. in M.E. from Harvard, she does something with Parts Marketing.

I've been trying to look just for engineering jobs though for 2 reasons:
              1. It seems that whatever you start out doing in your career, is the type of work you will be doing your whole life.
              2. I don't know where the hell to start, or what to look for when looking for other types of jobs.

I'm working on my degree. Two more years at this little college, then two years at Washington University.

I really want to get into car making, not tech and wrenching. I plan on doing two years at Pasadena Art College doing Transportation Design. That should get me somewhere, hopefully.
                Reminiscing...

Brandon, if I were you I would definately desire to hold out for an engineering job. I mean it would stink to be "stuck" in a field that was not using the degree to the potential. But there is obviously going to be a day where you might NEED a job, and there are other possibilities. I think some people could not "lower" themselves to a lesser job than they have been educated for.

I have a few backup plans, just in case Purdue doesn't recruit me right out of school. (But they usually do. A very high percentage of graduates are placed in their selected field or following further education a year later) I have worked part time at the dealership, so I have an open door, as well as a real estate firm the same thing. Either parts guy or becoming a real estate agent (tempoorarily) would help me along if need be.

I liked the last 2 of my 5 years, I finally could take the materials, thermal fluids, combustion, and engineering managment classes I wanted to take.

I got into Purdue and Rose-Hulman (Mech Eng. major) but i just decided to go to Georgia Tech (I was offered 15k gift aid at Rose, it was still 3/4 the cost of GT)

school is useless. i started working in video engineering almost 3 years ago. i learned it all slowly as i worked. best way to learn any kind of engineering is to be hands on with it.

I think that if you don´t make engineering a hands on job it will not become one for you

When I move to college in about a 1.5year I will have so much experience in wrenching that what ever I learn there will be car centered for me,,

I´m 25this fall,, and only have one Course in college, (Introduction to Business and Management, A passed of course, from a US School in 5weeks) I´ve been wrenching like a nut job since ´98 and have completed a host of diffrenct projects,,

Me , Arnib and Stefan325i all looked into Automotive Engineering and Motorsport in the UK, but the price tag of $26000 a year is not for me(as the icelandic stundents loan fund doesn´t loan out enough, just to cover the shool it self),, besides it wasn´t really what it was cracked up to be, so staying in iceland and paying $450 for a semester(goverment pays to keep the price down) and be able to live in your own place and still hook up with hot icelandic chicks,, and still have plenty money to live and work on your car( also not having to leave it behind) and get even more experience I think is better,

I think those tuner guys who have a ME are wrenchers by heart but with the knowledge to more then a basic mechanic ( not dissing Mechanics)
                                Gunni
