    Junkyards Kick Ass!

I was at my local Pick-and-Pull today looking for a Thunderbird emblem. My last name is Bird, so I wanted to get one and cut the "bird" off the en of it to put on my tool box. Not only did I find a emblem, but I also scored a 12" Hayden electric cool fan in perfect shape. Here's the best part. I got it and the emblem for $16!

Since I now have a fan, I've got a question. Those of you who hooked one up with a thermo switch, how did you do it? What did you use for the switch? Where did you put it?

Also, which works better, a pusher fan or a puller fan?

    Thanks.

man, junkyards in my area use to kick major ass. you would have a huge pile of CRAP and they would come up with some random number, and cash offer was always excepted. Now everything is computerized, $5 for any switch, $15 for any motor, blah blah blah. its good for somethings, such as my m50 was $170, but bad for the little things.
    NEED SOME VINYL STICKERS???

To answer you question about the wiring. I used a thermo switch that senses the coolant temp. The sensor is in the upper radiator hose. I used the stock wiring that goes into the radiator.

After researching it some, I think I'm just going to use the style that fittings into/through the radiator. That way I don't have to worry about coolant leaks or anything. Seems pretty straight forward.

I also found out that electric fans in a puller setup are more efficient.

AutoZone sells an adjustable thermostat kit for $17.99. It is just a variable resister, so you could make your own if you have a temp probe. But for that price, it includes wiring, brackets, hardware, etc... I have it in both my e30's and it's awesome. I installed both my fans as pushers because it frees up room in between the radiator and motor. Rarely do you need room in front of the radiator. It may be more efficient as a puller, but I've had a trouble keeping my cars cool, even with a little 12" fan.

So I picked up a thermo switch from Autozone. It's a non-adjustable type, but it should work fine. They were out of the adjustable ones.

I wonder if it would be as simple as hooking a potentiometer between the relay and the temp. sensor to make it variable? I might have to test this out.
