    is that safe ?!

hey there everybody....i thought id ask u since i am confused....a friend of mine was trying to convince me to buy a cabrio e30 325 he found instead of a 325 2dr i was considering buying off a relative of mine....after thinking about it, the cabrio is an interesting summer ride and all...but how could that be safe, there is nothing to protect the passengers in a case of a roll over crash for example

wut do u guys think, is it safe? should i buy it since i like it?

thnx for the help in advance :D

You could always put a roll-bar in it. I think with the right one, custom fabbed of course, it would be pretty sweet.

Do you plan on driving recklessly? Its pretty hard to rollover a e30.

BMW re enforced the A pillars for rollover crashes. If I can find the brochure I will post it that explains how they did it. I don't believe that the vert would be good in a rollover but just don't drive like an idiot and you won't rollover the e30. Really I wouldn't worry about it unless you are a complete dumbass on the road.

There was a picture that I saw of an e30 vert rollover and the A pillars stayed intact like they were supposed to. The piece that is above the windshield collapses and basically turns into a "V"

I'd say if you are giving any thought at all to rolling over just get the 2-door. Not that the cabby isnt safe enough, but if you think there is a chance of you rolling over then chances are you will be driving the car for performance, and the cabby is really more of a sweet touring car. It is heavier and has more chassis flex than the 2-door model.

                My 2 cents.

Is this the first time you've seen a convertible? People have been surving in them since the beginning of the automobile???

Also, although I am not 100% sure, wouldn't it be more difficult to flip a e30 convertible with more weight at the bottom of the car from the re enforcing of the chassis for flex? It probably doesn't make an enormous difference but maybe a small one

I don't think so, they still do have some bulk up at the waist and roof's of regular e30's aren't that heavy, and whether the top is down or not, it isn't the lightest contraption out there either. I'd say they're about somewhere close to equal, just the cabby is heavier and flexier. I still can push mine around corners pretty well though.
