    Are chips worth the $250?

Sorry if this has been addressed, but couldn't find an answer through search. I am just curious if I purchase (i.e, a Conforti chip) will I ever feel a difference, or is the claimed added power just spread throughout the powerband?

Also, is there a lightweight underdrive pulley available for the M20B25? Just curious! Thanks, guys!

Is the JC chip worth the $250? Yes
Do you have to pay anywhere near that? Hell no. :D
Most used JC chips will run $100-125 shipped.
Difference is night and day. And JC is the best.

JC is the way to go...night and day. I didn't pay $250. I made a trade for old seats and steering wheel.

I don't think I could justify spending the retail of $250 on a chip for my car. I would rather put that money towards my possible M50 swap in the future. This summer I might try out the venom chip from e30bumball because they are only $50. But $250 towards my m42...I don't think so.

Kenyon, maybe just worth it really for M20's.....

but if you buy a chip used for $100 shipped, and can sell it for $100 shipped, you'd probably only lose $5 to FedEx, which would be well worth it. 8)

Paid about a hundred for my used JC chip. Worth every penny. Hell, I'd probably spend the $250 on one if I had to.

                Robert,

I have never gone for a ride in an M20, let alone in a chipped one so I don’t have much say on whether or not it’s worth it for an M20. But in my opinion $250 would be better put towards an M50 rather than my M42.

True, based on what Rob was saying, the chip really doesn't do much for the M42.

Wow, the power gains of a Viper chip from a 325ix to a 325es. Must be awesome.

Dude. Seriously. Did you get your car running right again? Remember the dyno?
I thought today: tuning an E30 is two parts maintence and one part modification. 8)

$250? definately not worth that, at least for a 318is, and people claimed similar gains on both m42 and m20 powered cars...

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Since it seems the general consensus is not to pay the $250 retail, I'm assuming I should look at oulets like Ebay, etc. If anyone can point me in the right direction on that (or if you're selling a Conforti chip), I'd appreciate it!
