    Anything Special About A 1992 318iC?

I've got the itch for a cabrio and have begun looking around at them. I found a few '92 318iC's available. One locally. It's white, which I tend to love.

Is there anything special/interesting about the '92 318iC? Anything particularly bad about the motor in it (besides the missing two cylinders)? Anything at all I should know?

Does a Downing Atlanta kit bolt right on? :)

    TIA!

    Ben

nope. dasc was originally designed for the later m42 which has a serpentine belt drive. it can fit (grassroots did it). i think da is actually making an e30 kit.

I think I remember seeing in Roundel that their E30 kit is now available. DA's site sucks absolute balls though.

What are my suspension options on this car? Does it use the same springs/shocks as an '88-89 325iS? Do Cabrios require special springs/shocks?

Put a lighter flywheel on the m42 and it'll be much more fun... a good quick fix.

Other than that, look that the rear window is not foggy/cracked/poo as it can run alot to replace (unless it is a zippered in model).

Cabrios can use standard e30 suspension but the ass will sag. H&R makes cab specific springs but they lower the front 1.5 and the rear .75... looks crappy IMHO.

Oh yeah, rear seat top is often tore open.

Just went and took another good look at it and test drove it. Needs a bunch of little things but overall it's a worthwhile fixer upper. The paint is great, which is the main thing.

I put a deposit down and pick it up Tuesday.

                      Here are the specs:

                      - 1992 318iC
                      - Working Air Conditioning.
                      - 5-Speed
                      - PERFECT front vinyl seats.
                      - 144,000 Miles
                      - Manual Top
                      - Cool OEM-looking Tonneau Cover
                      - 16x7" BBS RS-003's (HAHAHAHA! I NOW OWN TWO SETS!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!)
                      - Includes Dinan CAI (installed) and Dinan chip (not installed)
                      - I'll be the third owner...

I'll list a few of the bad things:

                      - LCA bushings are shot.
                      - Diff bushing is shot.
                      - P/S hoses leaking.
                      - Shock Mounts are GONERS.
                      - Center Seam on rear seat is ripped.
                      - OBC on the fritz.
                      - Needs brake/clutch bleeding.
                      - Non-Stock muffler sounds like shit.
                      - Door brakes messed up.
                      - Driver's door lock cylinder shot.
                      - Passenger door pocket cracked.
                      - One bumper scuff.
                      - One missing fog delete plate.
                      - Dented rear valance.
                      - Side trim hanging off.

So basically a bunch of minor, easy fixes.

                      WOOT.

nice, '92 was the last year of the e30, but also the first year of the e36....nice little overlap.

M42's rock! E30 318i with M42 motors are a blast to drive. This motor comes alive over 3500 RPM, they love to rev.

If I didn't have so many cars, I was tempted to go look at this 91 E30 318i Conv that's FS near me

I like that color, that car looks nice. I see a dark green 318 convertible driving around every now and then that's in PERFECT condition. It's an attention getter (for me, at least since I call out "E30!" every time I see one), and a neat color. I prefer white cars over anything else though, and the wheels on the new car are gold, so it's just my style. In fact, that's why I noticed the car in the first place. It was sitting in the driveway of a house on my friend's street and I happened to see the for sale sign, so I took Ben to see it on Friday. I hadn't gotten a good look at it the first time, so I didn't see exactly what wheels were on it. When he saw them up close, he almost pooped. Then he bought the car.

Edit: And 3 E30s is nothing. Go buy it.
