Need new cat, where to buy?

I found out my cat has a hole in it, and also the exhaust. I did order the Stromung exhaust, but when i got under the car i saw there was also a hole in my cat. I called the dealer to see how much a new one was...they quoted me like 1,300 or so for that part....they said that it was 2 parts the manafold and cat as one and then the exhaust as another part. Is there somewhere else i might beable to pick this up at? like an after market one or something? Thanks for the help

Get a Catco convertor off of ebay.

They are like $30 and supposedly very high-flow and high quality.

Bring it to an exhaust place and have them weld on the proper flanges so it bolts right up. It should be pretty damn cheap.

Is this for the E30? Your best bet is to either have the thing hollowed out, and hole repaired (maybe?) or buy an old used one.

I didn't realize you could get cheap ones off ebay.. ;)

I had a universal put on at my local muffler shop it cost $150 total, and I'm sure local shops everywhere would charge similar prices

            Very true.....sucks out here.

There are some discount BMW vendors on line who sell OEM stuff for much less than the stealer....that is if you feel that factory stuff is what you want for a replacement.

An OEM cat from the dealer (which includes the downpipes aswell) is about $800 or so. I got one delivered from BavAuto for about $300.

Did you receive an OEM catalytic converter with downpipes?

Im going to need a OEM cat since my Catco didnt pass Smog Check for shit.

The State of California has officially deemed my car a Gross Polluter. ;)

Well, just think... when is your inspection due? If it's due after December 31 of this year, pass that one somehow, and then pull the cat, b/c OBD-I cars aren't required to pass emissions after Dec. 31, 2005.

Yeah, it was the whole cat + downpipes. Shipping was a little extra, but it was fedex 3-day

I can't remember where I found it (searching now) but I read somewhere that OBD-II vehicles are the only ones required to pass emissions (the "sniffer") after Dec. 31, 2005. I remember this because I was ELATED to find out that I can pull my cat off after I get my car inspected next January or February.
