Going to look at this M3. Any comments welcome.

Hey guys, I am going to look at the Holy Grail of all BMW's tomorrow. The guy that owns the car owns his own BMW/Saab repair shop. While I am inspecting the car on the lift and such, what are somethings that I should be looking for? What are some questions that I should ask? The car has 128000 miles on it so, what wear and tear items should I asked if he has replaced? The car from what I can see from the included pictures needs the hood and from valence to be painted. He is asking $13000 for the car. Here is everything else I know that he told me.

ONE OWNER BOUGHT IN GERMANY-ABSOLUTELY NO ACCIDENTS-PAINTED REAR SPOILER CAUSE WATER MARKS-ABSOLUTELY NO DENTS OR DINGS-NO RUST-COULD EAT OFF UNDERSIDE-NEW CLUTCH, RADIATOR, TUNE-UP, SPARCO STRUT BAR, BILSTEINS/H&R'S, ALUMINUM CONTROL ARMS

1989 black one owner, black int., no paintwork, never tracked, aluminum control arms, Bilstein/H&Rs, SPARCO strut bar, Turner chip, eat off the bottom, all new lenses, lights, and gaskets around glass, stereo system, clutch, radiator, etc. no rips or tears in interior. BMW mechanic owned. Bought in Germany.

    Thanks guys

          What's "Americanized" about it?

Are those genuine Alpinas? (They look 16", but I'm too lazy to count the spokes).

It's not a "Gernan" spec car. Does it have a VIN?

What does he want for it? I would spend some cash having the car checked out by another shop and make sure the engine is solid.

Real Aplina wheels do not have any out side valve stems, they are under the center cap.

The picture in my KSK catalogue has a valve stem on the outside rim.

                        Yeah, very impressive indeed.

But by purchased in Germany, he must mean that he took the European Delivery, where he picks up his US spec car in Germany, drives it to the nearest port, and then the car comes back in a ship for you to pick up when it arrives in the US.

Those look to be the real deal alpinas. Mainly because they have 20 spokes, the little bit of dish, and the locking center caps. However, I am not sure about the valve stem :? A nice find for an m3 if everthing turns out to be in good order.

I think you're seeing a spec of dust in the lense or something. Every copy I've ever seen has 19 spokes. I don't clearly see any valve stems anywhere on those wheels, and if they are copies, they are the best ones I've ever seen (because none of them have 20 spokes!).

that said, I'm so over alpinas..
