    car stands and jacks

    Hey guys,
Well the new car is arriving a lot sooner than I expected. I want to get stands a jack. Could anyone recommend something? I would like the car raised pretty high. I like room when I work.

I was looking at these http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...seBVCookie=Yes

for stands but they also have combos also.

I obviously want something that is going to keep me safe under the car. Also the car is lowered so a recommendation on a jack would be good.

I know its a broad question but I want something that is as dependable as my e30

    Thanks
    DJ

Snap-On makes a nice aluminum jack with a very low stance for slammed cars.

Maybe you can also check with cheaper alternatives from Harbour Freight. I have a small aluminum jack that hasn't let me down for three years.

    Snap-on

    Harbour Freight

    $199usd

    $84usd
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

I have a wonderful jack that I got at costco a few months back. Low rise Alluminum 2 ton jack for only 100 bucks. I had a craftsman jack before and it was mediocre and way too tall. I like my craftsman jackstands though, they are exactly the same as the ones you have pictured.

go with the harbor freight ones

I just got them not two days ago and have used them already. They work great, they are put together well and they aren't killer on the wallet.

I was looking at the aluminium jack at costco today. Looks like a nice unit; low and pretty light. The thing with craftman jacks are that when you go to lower the car it always goes down way too fast. I have those craftman jackstands and they work good. But then anything solid would work just as well.

just about any jackstands and jack will work. Im embarassed to say that all of my jackstands and my jack came from pepboys but they all work fine( they are the 6ton "BIG RED" variety).

if you cant get the jack under your car just stack some 2x4s in front of each wheel and drive up on them like ramps.

I have that jack, the same one backtrail has, from Costco. It kicks ASS. And it's easy to let the car down nice and slow. I fucking love that jack.

If you want the finest jackstands money can buy, you have to have AC Hydraulic.

I want it!. We already have 3 jacks though, Depending on what kind of drop I get with the suspension I've been working on during the weekend. I might get it because the only really low one we have isn't too great, some special we got from pepboys when my uncle needed to lift his s2000 at midnight this one time.

You're right, that's exactly what a cheap jackstand might do to you if it fails.

Napa has some real low profile aluminum race jacks. The only thing that could get under my old e30 that was nutted. Theyre about $150, and I believe are around 2.5 tons.

Right... so I'm supposed to spend in the range of $400 for a full set of jackstands based on the assumption that the "cheap" jackstands everyone and their grandfather have been using for the last 30 years MIGHT fail and drop a car down on me? Sorry, but I'm not falling for that one. If you're going to live your life based upon that kind of reasoning, you'd better be prepared to spend one hell of a lot more money on the things you use everyday than you currently are. In that case, you'd better go out and buy an H1 Hummer, because that cheap BMW you're driving might just kill you if that cheap civilian steel and sheet metal fails.

Sorry if I sound like an ass, but that kind of logic just drives me nuts. You don't have to spend ridiculous amounts of money on the most high-tech products to be safe while working on your car.

I have the cheap Harbor Freight jack.

It does work OK, but it is a POS. Does not lift very high either.

                            Go for a better one.
