they'll die eventually... another used tranny is only like $250 tho. If you want an easy daily driver, the AT is fine... i don't care what ppl say... but you will be missing out on some power/response.

yeah some cars came with a switch on the console that let you choose a few different modes.

my auto is at 80k now and has been rebuilt (previous owner was down on fluid and didnt know) but i beat the hell out of it and it works great

i'll be putting in a manual sooner or later tho (getting married so funds are kinda tight)

Its S on the 87's and older, and 3 on the newer ones IIRC

Just disables overdrive, and shifts later. Kinda handy when you want to have some fun and stay in the powerband, as the torque converter is always locked at higher rpm's, so its like a manual in terms of response :p

Hell I also engine brake with my auto alot, downshift to 2 hahaha

As you can tell, I don't care if I pop my auto, that is why I have the other car witht he manual in it, I can swap if I have to :p

yeah, I keep mine in 2nd or 3rd when entering an onramp and upshift at redline, but I don't shift down much, autos don't really like that. in fact, if I try to shift down, most times the selector will move but the tranny will stay in the higher gear. oh well.. maybe somebody will crash a 5 speed ix in my front yard and leave it there. ;)
