I think he just wants to avoid the hassles of registering the bike, getting a motorcycle license, and paying insurance. Though the cafe style bike looks cooler, I think he's just looking for practicality and not what other people think of him.

Let me add to the topic. Usually at the bottom of the moped chain you will find a French invention designed in 1947 and produced in France until the mid 1990s. This is called a Vélosolex. Basically at bicycle with a petrol engine hanging on the front wheel. The galley from the engine rubs on the front wheel to transmit the "power". If running out of fuel, it is possible to pull the engine and keep on pedalling. It does something like 400 miles on 1.5 quart of fuel. Here is the one that my girlfriend bought last year. 1967 Velosolex 3800 in perfect condition.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

To remain somewhat on topic - If I had to purchase on of these, I would buy the Vespa (original model) hands down, as it looks the best.

My reasoning is as follows
- In N/A they are normally purchased by people that are trying to look "modern", "hip" or "european", it's more of a fashion statement than anything.
- The above mentioned people, like the thought of riding down to the local "cafe" enjoying their espresso, and feeling like they are somehow "tres chic" .. . they might even have the notion they are saving the planet, after all they drive their scooter once a week for a grand total of 4 miles.... when they could have just walked in the first place.
- N/A culture hasn't fully embraced this mode of transportation, "legal" parking being the number one issue. While in Europe (and other countries where parking is of no concern), parking on the sidewalk is perfectly acceptable. How many $100 parking tickets are you willing to put up with?
- Having only been to Boston once, I can safely say you won't be driving this down the mass pike..... If it's a short jaunt to work, walk, or ride a bike is my opinion. This is coming from a guy that would walk to the office everyday... 5 miles (roundtrip) daily.
On a side note, need any 1973 2002tii parts?
