what if i "lock" the fan clutch, will it just cool the engine more.

i was going to do that because i got 3 of them from the junkyard and none of them spin up when the engine is warm they just still go the same speed as when its idling. so locking it would actually make it spin faster than idle. i ordered the new part but i need a fix right now and will replace it with the new one when it gets here. it should help a little, right? as a temporary fix.

You need more power if you are trying to get HP gains from removing a Fan... My fan clutch cooled my motor on the dyno on an hour and a half of steady state tuning. Or you could buy a lower temp aux fan switch and wire it to high. There is no reason to spend a lot of money on this situation. 40 bucks Max.. good electric fans are a lot more than that.. I would rather spend my money on more worthwhile upgrades...:: PNW Crew ::

some people don't have enough room in their engine bay for the clutch fan backtrail ;)
your logic seems a little funny to me. Sure you don't get a ton of power from removing the fan clutch but everything adds up. The only reason I said anything about that is people spend so much money on these little nickle and dime mods that honestly don't do a whole lot. If I started with a stock 325is I would do all needed repairs to get it up to stock spec. Add a chip, 4.10 LSD and a suspension/wheels and leave the car alone. You really don't see very big gains unless you open up the motor, add a turbo, engine management etc etc. I learned how much money you can waste on useless mods when the stock stuff works great.:: PNW Crew ::

im just trying to get the car to not wanna overheat when idleing for a while. i could care less about modding it or gaining horsepower. this is my girlfriends moms car and i just wanna make sure its not gonna overheat while shes sitting at lights cuz she probobly wont be watchin the temp gauge.

well I agree in that case that the fan clutch prob would be the better option. She prob wouldn't know the differance btw an m10 and backtrails turbo.
I get where you are comin from though backtrail. A lot of people waste $ on stupid things w/ their cars. But you can get a good electric for <100 and so its not that much more. So for the minimal hp gains and ease of working on the car, I would suggest an enthusiast to go electric. i just determined all of the fan clutches i had were bad. i drove my other e30 around the block to let it warm up and then revved the car and the fan spun up with the increased rpm's and stayed that way. the other ones just stay at idle speed. so i guess ill just have to wait until the other part gets here.

yea the cars temp will creep up at idle. i let it idle for 10 min and it was at 3/4. my other e30 doesnt do that and it has a good fan clutch. im in texas and i need all the cooling i can get. i was thinkin about getting a 174 degree thermostat but im not sure if it would make it open up too soon and not cool the coolant enough or if it would make it run cooler. right now i have a 180 degree in there. also i went to partsamerica.com and it says the fan clutch is $84 not $26
can someone post the link to the $26 one.
