the 4 handles, cut off the accumulators, to make the car move even faster.
Thanks for chiming in Mike .
I noticed the cut-off's last night also , pretty cool idea , drive with the accumulators then block them off when at the show .
Looks like he also might have the ability to lock up the rear to work the front independently .
There's something about when I go over a bumpy road and I feel like I'm in a lowrider that makes me want to put hydraulics in my car...
Even thought I have a GC coil-over set-up to go on my E34 I also like the idea of going with air bags .
Still undecided but been leaning more towards bagging since it will be more for DD duty .
A good friend of mine has the now outta business Praxis Air ride suspension set up on his e46 330i. It's too bad Bridgestone fucked up with that business because the system is really cool. The ability to go from touring(softest setting) to track mode in a matter of seconds is pretty sweet. The thing handles amazingly too, you'd never think you were riding on a "technically" bagged suspension.
My truck is bagged, and I drive it EVERY day here in germany, and you would be amazed at how a full size chevy with airbags, and 275/40/20s on it can handle the back roads over here!!!
honestly, it rides incredible! you need to bag a e34!!
the german "hydros" are really fast, but work with about 1/3 of the power of the reg"U.S." hydros.
with the U.S. style setups, we 4 ton springs, a cup, and the cyl.--- the german setup is the cyl mounted firm to the body, and the trailingarm- the accumulators do ALL of the dampening.
If a setup is CORRECTLY done, It is VERY easy to have a fully adjustable suspension AIR or HYDRO that can outperform most other set-ups.
My truck was done by a friend and me "he is THE airride/hydro guy in germany" and we even got it approved by the German TUV system-- so you can imagine how much time and thought went into the planning to get it set-up correctly.
here is my old OLDs, it moved a little better than the baby euro setups
and no, that wasnt photoshoped!!
actually, my buddy builds the set-ups from scratch. He uses mostly koni adj. shocks-- so yes, you could adjust the stiffness- but from outside.
it rides very comfortable if built correctly, and all the components are put together right. You would need a sort of softer walled airbag, and with the amount of air, would determine how "stiff the bag would work.
the setups are from simple to extravagant. everything is possible. I think firestone did a huge test day with everything from hotrods to trucks just to show that airride can be far superior to springs(off the race track)
and yes, you can adjust your ride height to anywhere you want. on my air guage in my truck, I put 2 marks on the guage, and I know when the needles are there, the truck is at "almost stock height"- let all the air out of the bags, and it drops to my "special made" bumpstops to scrape away! as well as be anywhere inbetween.
the average GOOD setup runs about 2000 dollars for a euro car-- because of the struts it costs a bit.
check out my buddies site-- ohh, and i have driven his Audi A6 wagon with the 20"s on it on the autobahn at over 120mph, and it honestly rides like a stock suspension car!
Looking at the pics i though it was pretty lame but when i watched the video i just though about how crazy it would be to see that thing next to you in traffic jumping around.
