    Factor reject motor?

Could it be possible that I have one?
Bought this motor used with 99,000 miles. It had what appeared to be a noisy top end so I had it rebuilt. I had the shop drill and tap a broken timing belt cover bolt and they found it to be 0.040" off center from the camshaft. They had to plug the original holes and re-drill and tap them. Noise persisted so I pulled the head head again and had it checked. No problems with the head but I still had the same noise after install.
Next, I pulled the pan and the IE crank scraper only to find the the crank was walking about an 1/8 of an inch ( nice grooves in the scraper )
The motor is quiet at idle and while cold. It only occurs above 1700 rpm and when you lift on the throttle.
Any ideas what could cause this?

it is possable to get a messed up motor from the factory but i have no idea if thats what you have or just shitty upkeep from a PO or crappy work from a shop.

3000 miles after i bought the car brand new from BMW the engine needed to be rebuilt. thanks for warrenties

it is most definetly the center crank bearing is shot the axial(back and forth) bearing is worn it is shaped like a U, and the crank can be pushed back and forth when the sides of the U have incorrect tollerances.-- bet it gets louder and quieter as you pust the clutch pedal.

with 100,000 miles, how could it be a factory defect?
0.040 is not very much for a bolt on a cover- but I am not too sure what bolt your talking about.

I would say that your shop didnt do the best work.-- from what I understand.
