anyone have a go kart or know about karting

ive got a kart, and im toying with the engine(6.5 tecumseh). today i adjusted the carb, def better pickup now, and burns out in grass. im wondering what else i can do, i dont know if cams make a huge difference or not (the one in the tecumseh is plastic,so i assume its a big difference) but id like to get an upgraded cam if its a decent mod, im also getting a velocity stack, header and valve springs. ive also thought of forced induction or even nitrous, but im pretty uninformed as to whether or not those systems exhist (turbo or nitrous).

My karting experience is limited to indoor venue stuff.....so I probably can't offer much help. But I do have a question about your tuning idea. Cams? Only possible if you have a 4-stroke engine. Every kart I've seen is equipped with 2-stroke motors (no valves...thus no cam).

You gotta pic of this bad boy?

Karts are not aobut horsepower, it about learning to carry speed thru the corners...Find a local track, and go out and do some racing!

no no, im not on road, lol. ive got an off road cart, (4 cycle too) so yes, it does have a cam. i was just wondering how to increase power. i guess some guy makes a kit that has a header, filter, and springs, also a hotter coil, and he sells it for $80. 2-3 hp gain get a JE high compression piston, port the head, intake, better carb and im in like flynn.

my friend randolph feruson is one of the best in the USA... he plans on going to europe for some huge race. apparently no one has been invited to go in 35 years... till now. i've never seen him race but he is supposed to be the best in the US.

Well I don't know much about the pro go karts, but I got myself a 5hp go kart that can do amazing burnouts in the driveway. I just tore apart, and semi-rebuilt its engine and got it to fire today. I need to get a wheel bearing and it will be ready to tear the yard up.

Be careful not to flip it. My brother has flipped it 8 times on the street and my friend flipped it upon himself. It doesn't have a roll cage either. Go karts are fun but you need to be careful.

yeah, ive flipped, and i have a cage, but i took it off. i like drifting in it, pretty insane. it has no brakes either, and it drives slowly at idle now because i tweaked the carb. its got huge knobby tires, so that doesnt help drifting either.

My little brother has a go kart that we ride in our backyard. The first day he got it I flipped it drifting around a corner.

That was after I had a drift session. I had mud all in my hair and all over my goggles.

Motorcycle turbo might work. And run a 100 of the juice ;)
