    What "14 tires to get?

The car that I'm gunna get needs new tires and I was thinking that I should do some tire research... I'm looking for ideas as to what I should get. I'm basically in San Francisco, CA, where I don't have to deal with snow, but I do plan on going up to Tahoe occasionally (where it does snow), so I'm looking for an all season tire. The rims are stock (iS basketweaves) and I'm planning on keeping them that way for a little while (no fund$)...so I'll be needing new tires very soon. What are you all running and what are your suggestions?

EDIT: also, what prices are we looking at?

I run the Toyo Proxes TPT. They work awesome in the rain and they have a 65,000 mile warranty. They're a very good daily-driving all-season tire. I think they were about $80-90 each.

Hmm..... the white e30 has Bridgestone Eagers and I'm not complaining. It definetly stands out on how long the tires last. Those tires are there for an year and 1/2 and they have the same amount of thread my 4 month old Yokohama AVS ES100s on the black e30.

However after some research I found the best tire for 14-15" would be the Bridgestone RE750. It's not the cheapest, neither expensive but it definetly has a lot of thumbs up from Tire Rack

AFAIK they don't make the RE750s for 14" wheels; at least not in a size I would consider (205/60-14). that's okay, I ordered a set for the 15" weaves yesterday, right now bridgestone tires have a $50 mail in rebate on the tirerack.

I say AVS ES 100s for 14" wheels. 205/60-14 is meaty enough and they're fairly inexpensive (about $75 each). Dry grip is excellent, wet grip is pretty good and hydroplane resistance is decent. If you align your car, and rotate them every 5,000 miles or so you should get decent mileage out of them. On the other hand, if you drive like me you'll get about 10k out of them before they need replaced :P

I couldn't imagine putting 65,000 miles on one set of tires!

            195/60HR14

            Yokohama
            AVS ES100

            Bridgestone
            Potenza RE950
            $72
            45000 Miles treadlife warrantly

            HANDLING RATING 8.40 8.60

            TREADWEAR RATING 280 400
            TRACTION RATING AA A
            TEMPERATURE RATING A A

I had 950's on my G20 and loved them.
            ES100s are obviously good.

3.3% shorter drive ratio with 195/60-14.
Not like the speedo was accurate anyway.... :P

              hell with the ES100s

I'd say go to a local tire shop, and get whatever they recommend. cheap generic all seasons will work just as well

oops. I missed that part. Forget ES100s, unless you feel like snow tires......
Bridgestone 950's are all season high performance tires. They worked pretty well on the snow, from personal experience.

p.s. Tirerack also has Bridgestone 950's in 195/65HR14 for $76.

Thanks by the way! ... but could someone with the patience to explain to an IDIOT the differences, benefits, etc. of different sizes? I just don't understand--is it a good idea to put on 205's when its supposed to be 195...or whatever it's supposed to be and what difference does it make whether they are 65 or 60's --I know that one is slightly lower profile... but I'm just really confused to tell you the truth... I saw the Miata site, but couldn't make much sense of it...
                  OK, I'm a retard.
                  but thanks

it's not worth it for you to get all seasons, not at all. my e30 blew in snow until I got snow tires. and even still i got stuck twice

if you're only gonna need them for a short period of time, I would recommend just getting summer tires, and some used winter tires or something

i plan on getting hacks or whatever for this winter, so I'll be selling mine. studded in the rear, regular snows up front, on steelies

                        Thats a pretty good idea.
I'm sure that I would be able to pick up some bottlecaps for cheap...
but I just want to get a tire that'll do ok in rainy weather too...
