Annoying ass *dinging* sound from gauge cluster? Help!

Okay, so every now and then my E30's gauge cluster (I'm assuming) would emit a *ding* sound that is similar to a newer cars little "buckle your seat belt or close the door dumbass* you get. Two days ago I was driving home at night and it probably *dinged* 10+ times. It would do it every 30 seconds to a minute and I have no idea whats up. The only warning lights on my gauge are the inspection lights which have been on ever since I bought the car, but that sound was never made until recently.

Also, my tach needle stopped working during the drive when the dings started and today it decided to work in the middle of a drive. I doubt it could have been the fuse, because the AC and tach use the same onel. I had that happen a few times after track practice during an AZ summer, fun..

Soo, any ideas? It was periodically doing it today and it's really getting annoying. I just checked the fuse box and they're all good, but one of them was sitting a little cockeyed, so maybe it wasn't making a solid connection all of the time? I'm going to drive over to a friends, so if it gets any better I'll post it up.

You know AZ sucks when you sweat in your garage at 8:30pm doing something as simple as unscrewing two bolts (previous owner lost/didn't feel the need to use all 4), popping out the speaker, then screwing back in two bolts. Maybe 3 minutes of work and it was still uncomfortable. When I get my own pad, my garage is going to have some kick ass A/C unit just for it.

does it only do it when you're driving? perhaps over a certain x mph?? does your OBC have a light on? press the button that has the light on, its your MAX MPH button and will cause the 'dinger' to ding anytime you go over the set MPH. That is my only guess. :D

In my old bronzit 89, i bought when i had my learners permit, the day i went to go take my road test for my license, the door chime started doing the exact same thing. only it was constant. So not only did i have to deal with that, but the guy instructing me had Tourette's Syndrome. It was 6 minutes of hell but i still passed.

I just hate when the weather gets cold and my OBC tells me that its 38 degrees outside...

It only does that to tell me there is a chance that there is ice on the road...but it gets annoying.

Get a new temp sensor from a junkyard. I paid $1 for mine!

Me too, I need a new OBC. Mine is crazy, it flashes shit that looks like the matrix unless you push the temp or date button a few times, then it settles down.

Now my RPM tach is working periodically, I have no idea what's up with that. I guess I just need to replace the cluster with the extra I bought a while back? It won't work and then a few minutes into my drive it'll spring to life.

                            Momo/temp

You sure the memo button wasn't pressed.

If it happens when you are driving, it is your speed sensor on your obc.
