if it sets shit free in the tank, it will clog the fuel filter. there should be nothing in between that and the fuel rail. if you have shit in the rail you have other issues like the car sitting for a long time and the gas turning into varnish. seafoam is meant to dissolve the crap, not just dislodge it and send it floating down the fuel system. anything it dislodges it will eventually dissolve. if you have sand or rust it wont fix it. if it clogs an injector add a second can and it will dissolve the crud hella well!

I applied seafoam to the injection system today just for the hell of it. I waited about 15 minutes and then started the puppy up. Not too much smoke, and my idle didn't clear up but thats only because there is an guaranteed air leak somewhere in the intake that i have yet fixed up ;).

I will tell you though that this car sounded a lot better. I was getting some jitters here and there and now they are gone. Not too bad, but we will see.

Yeah so I seafoamed half a can and waited 30 min and there was a little smoke and I went to get gas and my check engine light came on and I drove home and now I'm here.

I don't know what this means.

Is it common for the check engine light to come on?

*edit: Check Engine light turned off.

I'm a believer (but I was before, anyway). I did this on an '89 Subaru I had like 10 years ago, but I'd never done it on an M20. I'm amazed. I sucked half the can in through the brake booster hose and let it kill the car, and sit for 20 minues. Then did the same thing with the other half. After 20 minutes more, I took the car out and flogged it. The looks on people's faces as I went past them was priceless. I had people flashing me with their brights and pointing, and I was just cracking up laughing.

The effects were nothing short of amazing. Throttle response is unbelievably better, and the climb to the higher end of the revs is MUCH faster than before, and with much less resistance. My idle smoothed out considerably (it was idling really strange before), and the whole engine runs smoother, it accelerates faster, and feels noticeably more powerful. Who knows how much of this is attributable to placebo and the butt dyno, but it doesn't matter to me, the car feels 150% better. I'm going to get another can and run it through the fuel tank tomorrow. I'll bet after letting the car sit until tomorrow, it's going to be even better.

Well I've had some seafoam sitting around in my garage. Gonna use the FPR injection method this weekend and see how it goes.

I've been running SeaFoam in my VW's for years and it works very well like most things "IN MODERATION!" C'mon guys... follow the bottle instructions 1/3 bottle per use on a warm motor through a vacuum line put the rest in your tank. if you are anal do it every 3-4 months. SeaFoam is like injector cleaner and works best in the fuel /intake system. Just my experience in the last 9-10 motors I've built.

WARNING: In high mileage cars the downside is that if you clean all of the carbon deposits etc. out of the chamber, worn rings and valves you may lose compression hence power, as the buildup is what is may be keep things "in check" if you know what I mean. Yes, it will feel good for awhile then it may feel like it is reverting or losing power so you throw some more at it... making it worse. Ask me how I know, I did this on my S14 w/ 200K miles and now I am rebuilding :( A 2.5L remote turbo;)

FYI: Marvel Mystery Oil works very well in the crankcase to clean sludge & out you can drive on it for a week then change the oil and discover a clean difference.

Good info. We'll see what it feels like a few weeks down the road. but it might be different for different cars/engines, too.

I just put a can into my tank with a 1/4 tank and went out driving for a little while, should be interesting to see how it feels tomorrow after sitting overnight with it having a chance to work.

I think I might try that Marvel Mystery Oil before my next change. Along with another Seafoam treatment of course ;) It's been well over a year since I did it last.

Today, I've noticed the car running even better. One thing I've really noticed is while puttering around at low speeds in town, my car used to have kind of a hesitation/bogging when shifting from 1st to 2nd, right after I'd shift and give it throttle into the next gear, and now it's completely gone. Shifts into every gear are much smoother, probably due to the vastly improved throttle response. I've also noticed the engine is much quieter, and just runs overally much smoother.

Dude, look at post #133. I don't know how to make it any simpler than that. You don't need to use the brake booster.
