Go check out the most recent copy of Sport Compact Car...they did a big test on the EVO VIII RS vs 8 tuner cars.
The simple fact is, STi or EVO...both are stupid fast. They'll work over most cars pretty well on a track. They are practical (4-doors, decent milage, roomy, japanese reliability). They are great cars (even if you don't like their styling).
