My '90 325i is almost a daily driver. I mix in my '73 2002tii for fun.

My wife's Infiniti Q45 is used for dates, etc.

My son's Jeep Cherokee Sport is used for hauling.

I split mileage between my cars. Fuel economy levels out as they all are E30's anyway in differant variants.

When my E30 is done.....god when will it be ready to drive....it will mainly just be a garage/car cover queen. Then I will daily my truck or pick up my bosses E36 M3 and daily that.

Factor in depreciation costs, interest costs on any new car purchase, and higher insurance costs.

E30s do not depreciate, can easily be owned outright, and have low insururance costs.

The only thing you give up are some maintenance repairs vs. a new car.

For me that all adds up to more than a newer car that would get 7-8 miles more per gallon of gas.

Common sense tells me I should buy a little jap-truck, or just keep the Dodge and spend everything else on the M3.

              I'll figure something out.

              Thanks,

                kroberts,
Did you have an e30 with nice red interior on craigslist? I don't know why I was thinking that was you. Something about it being registered as an 84, but had plastic bumpers (which I need to figure out how to register mine as an older car, to avoid sniffer testing)..

just curious if that was you or not.

BTW I don't drive my cars at all... one has a transmission from hell and the other isn't registered/inspected and I haven't figure out where to start with it!

Sell truck and beater and buy a 4 cylinder 5sp tacoma.. Good mileage and can haul plenty. More peppy than you would think too.

I strongly believe there is no better daily driver for the money than an e30 (M20 equipped).

I daily drove an 88 325is auto until 215K miles and sold it to a friend who still drives it - it's got 231K miles now. Original alternator (and voltage regulator!), fuel pump lasted until 220K, original auto trans still strong, etc etc. Aside from regular maintainence, the only failure I had was a starter.

The only reason I sold this car is because it was an auto. Now I have a manual 88 325is. 165K miles and going strong. The key is regular upkeep - belts, water pumps, and fluid changes. IMHO, there are no more reliable cars including Hondas, Toyotas, etc.

Take it from me (factory chrysler tech, [you better believe I'm out of that!]) sell that dodge truck! Chrysler has a service bulletin for the 2.4 l4 PT, etc. for an excessive (I've seen this more than once) oil leak that says to remove valve cover, loosen all head bolts and then re-torque cyl. head! Shows how much the mfg gives a F. What a joke! They're crap, buy a jap truck.

I have an old honda that I drive to work and to the lake and use for camping and shit. I only drive the E30 on the weekends and to pick up hookers.

I'd just get a more economical truck.
