That's the same thing the JC Chip claims for the eta.

It's probably just a burned copy of it.

Maybe I'm still new, but a chip just optimizes the engine to use higher-octane fuel and re-maps the timing/ignition. On a 160 hp engine, that's about a 15% gain from chip alone- I don't know if I believe that.

I'm pretty sure it's not - that's peak power difference.

Those are the same numbers as the JimC chip. The ebay auction says its strictly for an eta.

It's most likely a burned version.

And let me say, I wouldn't trust it for $40. For all you know, it didn't burn right, and you'll fry something in your motor because the timing will be way off, and you'll run lean or something.

Don't buy a burned ebay chip. They are copies of chips that people have spent much time and money to develop. It's hard enough to get people to make products for old ass cars, so if they lose their business to these astards, they'll stop producing.

My first chip was a pirate from ebay, I just didn't have the cheese at the time for a Mark d. It did fine. I still have it in my tool box actually. I plan on chipping the 528 with one of those.

I have a $20 ebay chip in my eta. I bought it about 4-5 years ago. It offered a HUGE gain, much bigger then my real Dinan chip in my 325is. I can barely tell a difference in my 325is with or without the chip. When I took the chip out of my eta, it felt like I was running on 4 cylinders.

My eta now has 230k miles on, about 100k with the chip. Runs perfect. I've never heard of an issue with a burnt chip not working, or causing damage. It's a morals thing, mainly. I did it once when I was 17, and won't do it again. I'll buy the real MarkD chip next time, to support someone who sells reasonably priced products and supports the e30 community.

My sentiments exactly. I had an "old-ass" computer long after it became obsolete and there were still companies making hardware and software for it. It was a Commodore 64 which was a great PC at the time. But as a community we shot ourselves in the foot by pirating the software and sharing info on how to make hardware dongles.
