anyone done this before? I finally found a really nice 318is, red/black, low KMs, 1 owner, mtech package.. basicaly mint shape. old lady has to sell it because she has arthwritis and can't drive stick anymore. it's not on the market yet but she'll sell it to me first.. funny thing is, it's only going to be in the states for about a year, and then I'd bring it back to canada.

yea just do it the un legit way. While your going through the trouble, you might as well get a car from Germany to canada and bring that one into the states.Comment

You could always register it at a friend's house too. I have worked on Canadian cars before here in San Diego. I want to say one of them even has California plates now...although it's a E90, so it's a brand new car and probably complies with safety standards for both countries.sigpicComment

well I'm moving to canada next year.. I could register it under my girlfriends name I suppose, but that could make border crossings problematic.
the car would be good to go except it doesn't have an airbag - they are required after (september?) 1989 build dates. I could convert it but if I'm bringing it back to canada in a year anyway that would be pretty pointless.
and you can bet once I'm in canada I'll be importing one from germany. I set her straight on that one right away :pComment
