    Intakes

looked at a few threads/posts but couldnt really find anything without going too deep. Okay so tonight I helped a buddy of mine install a cai on his GTI and was wondering if I could make a custom cai for my e30. What I am aiming at is taking off the brake duct and seeing if I could get the filter down there in its place. gotta find a shop to bend some pipe etc. etc.

Now my main question is, after removing the stock air box and everything is there enough room to fit the proper sized tube down to that area? just started looking at it tonight so it was already dark and yeah. Also is there anyone on here who has done this if it is even possible? custom or are there kits? when i look it up all i see are the short ram intakes that stay in the same area as the stock air box...

    anyways, thanks!

As I recall, I remember seeing a photo of a similar setup. One thing to keep in mind is that when it rains a lot of water will be sucked into this area. It would also decrease the cool air going to your brakes, which may create other problems.

Because this is a new idea, never thought of before, I thought I may share also, AEM makes an intake bypass coupler that prevents Hydroloc due to "water injection" as posted above.

I've seen it done before (not on e30's). It's not a bad idea, but keep in mind that the stock airbox flows pretty well. Either get a high quality K&N cone filter and build a proper heat sheild and CAI tube, or build your CAI tube off of the stock airbox w/ K&N panel filter.

              I must be REALLY lucky!!!

My m3 has the dinan intake and it is inches off the ground behind the driver side tire just above the brake duct...

              60,000 miles! Lucky me!

never said no one thought of it before, I was seeing if anyone on here actually has photos or the dimensions of what they came up with.

                Thanks for your inspirational comment.

I live in Arizona, not really worried about the rain factor. Thanks tho!

Shit isn't it humid enough in Pheonix to suck water out of the air?

For all of you block heads thinking that I meant this as to be a "new idea" you are an idiot. I made this thread to get information on people who have actually done this, that actually have this installed on their cars.

I wanted specs and pictures not immature comments, but I was kinda expecting them anyways.

You can't get that info here about intakes unfortunately...

Give it a shot. If done right it will work :)

Don't let it get to you... It's a prerequisite for r3v... Your supposed to feel stupid. It's the method for weeding out the lame-o's I hear you gotta survive for a year or two. That, or, don't post...
