Why do you need 9" wheels up front? I'd settle on 8 and 10, that would be a bitchin stagger!

I agree, IMO, a staggered look will be better than 16x10 all around, and you'll have less rubbing issues in the front.
I am a fan of the 7.5 x 16 in the front and 9 x 16 in the back. I'm sure steelies in 8 front and 10" back will look awesome.
          Good luck, and post pics

diamond racing wheels are lugcentric, just remember that when your looking at them. corrado steelies are 15" and hubcentric to our cars.

2" stagger scares me...I guess I'll sleep on it.

^^ I know exactly what I'm getting into...much thought and care was taken, trust me ;)

I so badly want some widened corrado steelies, I have been a huge fan of widened steelies since they started popping up arround vwvortex. DO IT! If i was not a broke mofo saving up to lower my car I would be all over a couple of the sets i have seen for sale!

I think you would be able to get away with it as long as they are the correct offset, meaning no spacers would be involved, and if you were to use studs with conical lugs. For autocross/temp use that would work well.

16x10 all around offset = ET-2. 225/40/16's are pretty much the narrowest that would mount, and the car would need serious flaring of the fenders.

studs are the way to go...

True story. There's a way to convert it, but I don't care to learn it. Backspacing is rarely used with modern wheels.
