Money shifted auto... go figure.
"See, we're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone wanna see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."
So the kick down works no matter what gear or rpms the car is currently at? Weird. I guess I'm just used to my Integra's old automatic tranny which made some intelligent decisions to what gear to choose.
i can tell you from experience that it will not kick down once the rpms get up there... and 135 in the auto is not that likley in itself... its not exactly geared for it
The ZF in my car will NOT allow a manual shift if the engine will overrev, it actually knows.
However in a 92ic he prolly had the electronically controller ZF, which is a tad differnt I think when it comes to how the tranny knows what the engine is doing
on my 85' the automatic will kick down into third at any speed. and if you have the kickdown depressed it wont shift into fourth unless you let it go. i made the same mistake in my 318i but i was only going 105. i dont think my car can go over 120 (downhill!!!!). ya it sucks.
That couldnt have happened. The tranny has a built in mecnanical mechnism that doesnt allow these downshifts to occour, this system overrides the throttle valve cable, manual control, and the kickdown swtich on electronic trannys. It's a set of spinning weights; centrifugal (sp?) style. Something was amiss inside his tranny to allow this to happen.
