    Down shifting

    Hey guys

I keep noticing that I down shift pretty hard, How does everyone else on here do it? When I say hard, I mean like sometimes I do it fast and I Shift Lock the rear wheels ( I get a quick screech from the rear)

I know this is not normal, obviously, lol, but even when I smooth it out I feel like im slipping the clutch to much and I get a very small jerk....

    ALSO
HOW DO YOU HEEL TOE ON THIS CAR!
my foot keeps hitting the damn brake pedal lever instead of the pedal its self, im going to have to learn how to toe heel soon, lol

One more thing, how does everyone drive there car usually, calm, cool driving style, or drive it like you stole it?

match your revs. heel toes just take practice.

and i drive my car slow cause gas is too expensive.

You are not down shifting properly. You need to rev the gas to match the rpms before releasing the clutch.

If you don't rev the throttle before releasing the clutch, it will not feel smooth, and you are killing your clutch.
If you just slowly slip the clutch, it will feel smoother, but you are still killing the clutch. You NEED to give it some throttle to match the rpms.

I would focus on regular downshifting now before worrying about heel-toe shifting.

You need to rev match your shifts. This is where you use the accelerator to make the revs as high as they are going to be when you put it into a lower gear. Doing this correctly ensures that you wont destroy your clutch.

Heel toe is hard to do. practice practice practice.

And if you dont know how to downshift correctly i suggest you never downshift hard enough to screech your rear tires. Do this over a puddle and you might end up in the wall.

I drive my car like i stole it. But i drive it right.

          I though this was r3v, not hondasRcool.com

Like everyone else says, rev match downshift.

I'm hijacking with another question. Sometimes when I sit at a stoplight on a hill, I'll let go of the brake and just have the clutch sitting halfway to hold the car still. I've done this in my other cars, too. Does this wear the clutch significantly faster, too?

Of course, the clutch is halfway engaged and you are just sitting there slipping the clutch. That Horrible for the clutch.

Fwappy, changing out clutchs are fun. I hope you like doing it. Just use the brakes. it takes almost no common sense to do that.

heel-toe doesn't literally mean what it says. I use the ball of my big toe on the brake pedal, and my pinky toe to stab the gas.

and god, whatevery you do, don't hold the car on a hill with a clutch! that's just retarded. why would you ever do that? that's why BMW put brakes on your car..

Ha ha...I was just about to say the same thing about using the 2 sides of your foot. If you are not wearing super skinny driving shoes then heel-toe really becomes left side of foot, right side of foot.

LOL.... just practice left foot braking in city driving.... it's amazing how used to your right foot is to the brake pedal and how it takes some time to "train" the left one to do the same....

yeah I do... it's really strange. The first couple time you freaking nail it not even knowing what your doing. Left foot braking doesn't help with downshifting though because you need to be on the clutch... so...??

That is probably the worst thing you could do to your clutch short of repetative hard launches. STOP DOING IT. That's what BRAKES are for, why the fuck would you want to use the clutch?

I'm pretty sure it even states not to do that in the owners manual.

                              lol..

I know how to drive and how to heel-toe, I used to have a S13, I know how to control the car if it got sidewayzz :-) lol.

But I do a combination of both, with throttle and without, but without throttle I can get the car to stop faster obviously. With throttle, just seems like the car is coasting... sorry, im not to used to down shifting, lol. Oddly I never down shifted in my Nissan because of the backfire and how loud my Apexi was, lol.

but I was heel-toeing today, all of you are right, you need one side of your foot for the brake and the other for the throttle, im just not used to that, lol.
I have big feet to, you know what big feet mean??? :-o
