i know very little about them and my brother is dead set on buying one. Can anyone shed some light? My first instinct is moneypit....

They're money pits, especially if it's old or cheap. They were hundred thousand dollar cars new, and weren't reliable then, now that they're 3-4 owner cars, they aren't getting any better

Just get an Alfa
No, really... My first car (well, sorta) was an Alfa Milano 2.5 V6 and it was not only the most trouble free car I have ever had, I also kept it for the longest period of time (3 years). Italian motors + Bosch electronics FTW.'88 528e /// '88 M5 /// '89 951 /// '98 E430 /// '02 M5
