    E30 with motorcycle engine

Just curious as to if anyone knows if this has been done before (I'm sure it has)? I think it would be pretty cool because these cars can get somewhat light. Not miata/mini light, but decent enough and its an e30 so it would be cooler anyway.

Could be useless daily or whatever, but just as a project car I think it could be pretty sweet if done correctly.

Also, which would be more efficient? Front engine, or mid-rear? With the front you already have a firewall and subframe, so the rear would require a lot of work if you wanted to tie into the diff.

I don't know, I've got a lot of projects on my mind, but I just want to get some opinions.

    Not light enough.

You'd want something 500-700kg for a bike motor.

    E30 count = 6!

      motorcycle engine

if you do a swap it would probably be a good idea to think about torque. a suzuki gsxr1000 has 160hp but only 75ft-lbs of torque while the kawi zx14 is big cc's giving it a lot more torque with 115ft-lbs and a little more hp.So choose a big bike like a hayabusa or zx14 those are the two most powerful bikes out pretty much.that would be sick sounding with a yoshi pipe sticking out the back

and check out the smart diablo on youtube

Wouldn't be worth the time / money / engineering... Just not enough torque in those small motors. There is a reason the M3 got 6 cylinders after it had 4, and why it's getting 8 now after having 6, there is no replacement for displacement. Even turbos don't quite do the trick on really small motors... I can't imagine how shitty the driveability would be on a turbo 1000cc motorcycle engine in an E30, especially if it was pumping enough boost to make a good amount of torque.

Just get the engine out of a Triumph Rocket III. 2300cc 140HP 147lb.ft. engine. Would be an upgrade from a 318i or 325e. LOL

How about a Hartley V8? It's two Hayabusa engines siamesed.

                        400HP @ 10,000RPM on stock cams.
                        245lbs Tq @ 7500RPM.

                        Weighs 200lbs.

New 2.8 liter flat plane V8 sets new standards for compactness and power.
