    Custom Sunroof

Hi, I'm new here looking to purchase an E30 but i have a question. I saw a 318is yesterday with a custom sunroof. Should i be purchasing the car or should i be concerned?

Nothing really its just not from the factory. Just the sunroof switch is mounted where the ripped up uphostery is located so the switch is somewhat dangling.

So, you are saying the sunroof itself is not factory or the switch has been moved? Where is the switch? Stock location is near the rear view mirror on the header panel.

If the sunroof is not stock, I wouldn't touch it. You are just asking for leaks and rust issues.

Okay thanks. yes the sunroof is not factory. But you are right there might be leaks and rust issues.

haha well actually the sunroof works i am not sure if there is rust under the roof of the car. i was looking at a sunroof delete and just fill it with a carbon fiber panel. what do you guys suggest?

I would stay away from it. It's more trouble than it's worth.

afaik a bunch of dealers installed aftermarket sunroofs on 318is (usually they are glass too!) I've never heard of problems with them but I haven't owned one. IIRc trevor had one in his 318is

well the one installed was glass. it's just the fact that someone had the nerve to cut a hole into the car is a little nerve racking. the guy selling the car wants $2000 with only 150k miles.

Have a picture of it? Does the sunroof go back into the roof when it is opened, or is it a pop-up-only version?

There is a glass roof that was available as an option from the dealers when these were new.

I didn't take pictures. the roof does pop-up, it can roll back into the roof. the seller showed me a sticker in the trunk where he had it fabricated.

Well, if you want to trade the glass for a piece of steel, I will gladly take the glass piece off of your hands......

                            lol

edit: It shouldn't scare you away from the car. As long as the car itself is in good condition then go ahead and grab it up.
