Good/Not so good Deal (vert)

some info....88 325iC....car does not run...has roughly 140K miles and it needs TLC...asking $500...tried to start the car...can get the dash to "light" up but nothing...no click...no attempt to start....also when the dash lights up doesn't stay that way even with the key fully turned on...figured it might be the ignition switch...but since I'm new to the e30...I defer to you all.....ALL input is welcome....(goal is to restore or have as a project car...)

This is the kind of thing you get into when you know about E30's and can get it going with a few simple things you have learned. I bought a car in similar shape back in April, I'm still working on it. Let me guess you want an E30 to drive and enjoy right? ME TOO, just get one you can drive right off the bat, the price difference is not much btw one that runs and one that cost money to get running. Let someone else with experience get it.

I rebuilt a car for my GF that was in about the same condition, here is before:

but I have been wrenching on E30s for a few years, installing electronics on BMW in general since 1985 or so and working on cars all of my life.

If you have a place to store it, buy that thing and a beater. Fix and drive the beater, learn what the hell you are doing, gather parts and "Restify" that 'vert.

Whatever you do, please don't put a body kit on it. Maybe and Mtech or a bumper swap, but that's it. :(

please tell me what you used to clean all that up! mine isnt nearly that bad but its still not nice and shiny(which i want it to be) its all yellowy type of thing.... so what did you use? I would loove to know

I took it apart, down to the block, after much pressure washing before, during and after dissasembly.

I scrubbed each part, cleaned every nut, bolt and washer (including wire brushing of each stud or bolt) and painted all major parts.

That is NOT clean shiny metal, that is Engine Paint...and fresh gaskets and careful assembly...runs like a top. I am into that car about $1300 total, including new struts, shocks, wheels and tires, alarm and stereo.

i just want to 2 big pieces clean(everything else is clean except them) im sorry i don't know the names. My step father is going to start teachign me about the engine soon enough.. would you say using wired scrub pad + some sort of thinning material(or something else) would do the best. then once its gone get engine paint?

Use Castrol Super Clean to get the cosmoline off. I took my valve cover off and left it in a parts washer for 3 days.
