I can understand why you wouldn't want to deal with his insurance company.

I had a similar situation where I had to take one of my cars home and my friend was following me in my other car. We get to the traffic light and the friend behind me gets rear ended causing him to hit me so I ended up having 2 wrecked cars. Neither he or I was found to be liable for the accident but MY insurance company raised MY rates! They said that because I allowed a friend to drive my car and both of my cars were in the same accident, it could appear as if there was a loss due to mutual negligence. WTF?! The police report clearly says what happened in black and white!

I am sure that if they found out that you are friends with the guy, that could have put a major snag in the program. It's like they are always looking for an excuse not to pay out or to delay paying until they can ascertain getting to the bottom of useless information. One thing that I hate about my insurance company is that any time I talk to them, they always want to ask me stuff that has nothing to do with anything. On one hand I don't want to get caught in a lie and have them up the rates on me or cancel me if they found out the truth, but at the same time I feel like if I tell them everything, then they will use it against me.

i dont think you will be able to swap the suspension bits to another car ix are very different than any other car.

thanks ya im not worried... this car was a love HATE relationship since day one.. kinda one of those "i want to murder my wife..but not get caught" kinda situations.. well now the bitch is dead.. and i can move onto bigger better things

I have Amica insurance and they are very good, at least so far. They are easy to work with and they let you put your car on "lay-up" in the winter when you are not driving it. This lets you keep insurance on your car for about half the price of when you could drive it. The car is still covered if something happens to it, as long as it was not on the road.

Hey now thats pretty cool. Can you put it on "layup" when you have a nasty mechanical failure and the car is down for months being repaired? 8) During the ownership of my M3 I paid for at least 3 months of insurance in which time the car did not leave the garage...

the lay up deal is mostly for us northerners where it snows an shit. Down south where you have better weather year around it dont fly so well.

Met Life lets me do the same thing - you can do it multiple times in the same year even. My local agent even said he'd be fine if it was less than 5 times in any 12 months or so.

So yeah, I'd be surprised if you can't do this with a lot of companies.

Met Life also is pretty good about add-on equipment. Even tires, which are generally a "no-go" with a lot of companies. They are cool enough to see that alot of us spend alot more than the basic cost for rubber, and unless you are on the wear bars will cover your loss in the event of a total - and at a better payoff schedule than if you were running budget tires from Sears.

I don't even need a receipt - if I can show it was on the car in the event of a theft I am covered. A few simple pics on file and that's a open & shut deal.

State Farm lets us do the same with our hotrods during the winter. It's like 7 a month just incase anything happens while its in the garage its still covered.

My condolences on your loss. That looked like a beautiful car, and an ix to boot.

Nobody outside of our community really seems to appreciate these cars or realize how rare some E30's are becoming, like an ix or even the is, es and cabby's.

They just see it as some old car and don't realize how unique these cars are, how well built they are, how nicely they drive and how reliable they are.

I just bought a front air dam, rear lip and sport wheel from a chick who had an 87is that she basically drove into the ground.

Timing belt broke on her, and the exterior had a bunch of clear coat peeling so she parted it out. These cars require a little extra care, but they will reward you with many years of enjoyable driving.

It was sad to see a car that at one time was really nice in such a state of disrepair. Delphin Gray with Black Leather interior and Sport Seats.
