What is required for E30 S38 swap?

Listen to all the above guys - once you are done you still have a VERY VERY expensive motor to keep healthy. There's a good reason we all get M/S50/2 motors & do those. A OBD1 M52 swap is half the cost of a S38, or really close. Plus if a M52 goes bad, you don't need a 2nd mortgage on your house to fix it.
You think we are all a bunch of smartasses posting pics of money, but really that's what it comes down to.Leave a comment:

What we are trying to say is "Don't worry, you will NEVER do it..."
You asked what other m30 parts do you use? Ummm - Like what spark plugs? It's a motor, you'll need that and, ummm yea the motor, motor mounts, and a tranny, drive shaft...oh and the motor. That is an easy 5k for a 150k+ motor, I would guess +3k for a rebuild on it in the next 20-30k.
If you need to rock your socks off thinking about it, go to e30.de and search around. You'll find plenty of e30/s38 porn.
BTW - the motor is a lot taller than a m30 (go figure), you have to space the sub frame by 20mm-30mm to clear the hood.
Sorry to be harsh, but there is a 99.99% chance you will never do it....Last edited by george graves; 10-16-2007, 08:04 AM.Leave a comment:

you won't be able to use many m30 pieces..about the only thing the m30/s38 share is the block/oil pan/pump. you will need to use a later style oil pan/pump e32/34...the exhaust, and everything is different on the s38. you'll need the m5 ecu aswell the m30 won't work for itLeave a comment:

Besides the donor engine and tranny, can you use many M30 swap pieces? Thanks for any insight
