Frats? Yes or No

I will add one possible positive: there could be a future job hookup from a frat. The only reason I care to be an associate member is I can get into a lot of functions that involve talking with recruiting people and such.

The frat guys I knew were the type of guys that were really big dorks in high school. But yes, it does depend on what school you are at. The last school I went to (where I graduated from), frats were almost unheard of. Only a couple had houses (one of them was actually an old 3 story elementary school, kind of cool for parties). I knew a lot of guys that were in the frats because regular drinkers find themselves running into the same people at most gatherings. But a majority of them were tools. I chose not to get into them because it just wasn't my thing. My two older brothers both were in fraternities through most of their college lives, but then they went to a big party school where everyone was in one.

I was in a fraternity. I suppose it was fun. I probably wouldn't do it again.

My experiences with frats aren't the best, but being on a huge campus like Ohio State you really don't need to be in one to have fun parties etc.. I am generalizing but the lyrics to a song from a local punk band sums up my experience with most not all guys that I have met that are in frats..

pledge if u feel like paying a bunch of money to: get totally loaded with a bunch of dudes, get spanked by those same dudes, see a bunch of hot girls, watcha bunch of your brothers get in fights over those girls, and live in dorm style housing for collage. frats throw awsome parties bottom line. But fraternaties that send u letters probably have huge charters (100+ members) and its kinda hard to get along with 100 random dudes much less get there backs when they get rowdy. also u gots to have cash money to pay the frat every semester. i personally am not in a frat mainly because most frats have huge charters and huge charters=at least a couple stupid rowdy big frat brothers that i frankly am not going to stick my neck out for or probably ever agree with. i would say join a small charter with similar inrests if you really want to join but even then make shure they're tight fellas cause your going to pay them to be your friends/roommates so they might as well be the best guys u can find. small frats are incresingly hard to find tho due to nationals practically demanding that small chapters increase size so they (nationals) can make more cash money. I know this because i helped start a frat in tuscon but ended up backing out because nationals told us that they wanted at least 50 members. actually what i would say is if you've got extra time and friends is try to start your own b/c u and your friends get to have a say in everything. while all the paper/busy work is a pain it proves to be worth while if nationals dosent screw u. but yea bottom line think about before u go pledging any fraternaty and remeber that most frat members were either hardcore jocks or hardcore nerds ( the weak sauce type that were the loners at parties not the type that ace all their tests)

the frats at SLU are kind of hit or miss. 3 out of the 4 are filled with assholes who wont let you in unless you bring at least a few girls, then once your in you get kicked out if the chicks leave your side. Happened to me, the one fraternity that isnt filled with dicks is filled with nerds or other such types that really arent looking to party in the first place. I say check out the scene your freshman year then if you decide to rush, do it the fall of your sophmore year. Itll give you time to experience college and decide what you really feel like doing
