OK, so 2 E30s:
Mine: Bought the pile for $1K. Wheels, tires, springs, shocks, timing belt, misc. maintainance (or however the fuck you spell that) items, pile of stereo and alarm shit, freshly reupholstered seats, 2X used broken windshields...basically, about $2500, total, including the price of the car.
Kims car: Bought the pile for $500, $400 in wheels, $300 on tires, $200 in engine parts and new CABs, alarm, and used stereo crap...basically $1500 total.

car was free but i paid bmw to service it years ago. around 4k for a few years.
will be at 3.5k for this exterior finish
<2k for suspension
<900 for tranny swap
~1.5k for sets of rims
random other stuff could total 2k, thinking about it, more and more add up.
I'd say ive had to THINK about handing over around 10k so far and that doesnt do much for the car. Engine is next.Leave a comment:

I have spent about -400 on my ETA. I bought it for 400 and sold all the cool stuff off of it for around 800 or so. and I am still driving it everyday for the winter.
the M3 I have not even tried to think about what could be invested into it- but off hand I am sure well over 25kLeave a comment:

im at a little over 4k. but just think of the guys like Ryan Stewart, Vlad, Jordan, James, those guys have put a SHITLOAD of money in those cars. but still, have probably never had a car payment. And its not like these people(besides Vlad) are turning their cars around in a quick time.
As much as I'd like to get a new 335 or e46 M3, the thought of having a car payment scares me. My only car payment was for the first e30 i bought back in 1999, and that was to my mom(150 a month while a Freshman in High School..) For the amount that I(we) spend on these cars, its well worth it IMO and for the M3 guys its not like they'll ever loose their values. Hell, whens the last time you saw a super clean slightly modded 325iS go for less than 5k? These things are only going up in value.
Bottom line, its not what you spend, its what your enjoyment factor is when all said and done. I enjoy my car. and thats that!
