Just Pure Luck
Well, I got lucky. Bought a car I did not think I wanted untill I saw it in person ( wife knew I loved to work, tinker, fix, and race cars so she found one for me ).It was a 1987 325is coupe with 237,000 miles . She had to drag me to the other side of Atlanta to see it, the whole time driving I'm thinking 230,000 miles what a money pit this will be. YES, I was wrong! The owner was ocd about everything working and being perfect so it was in great shape to start with for the low price of $1900 what a deal. He had some other Great cars also.!
e30s are not bad if you do maintance.
Then a car wash person drove it into a van coming out of the car wash, well they paid us I think $2800 for the car and we kept the car. spent about $900 on the car to rebuild (doing most of the work !) and later putting it back on the road. All I have left to do is fix the rear brakes and good polish ,clay, wax and detail job. I think I'll be at about $100 - 200 over all when done. (but all thanks to my wife) I do like keeping things orginal, but my 97 m3 is a different story!!!!!!Leave a comment:

I think some people in this thread are either
A) Fulla shit
B) Buy all their parts at the dealer
C) don't work on their own cars..
I'm not talking about guys like criv and ufom3... but more like the guys with bone stock looking etas that claim 3k spent.

325es - Approx $5k (Parts & Maintenance) - Paid $2200 for the car
325is - I'm going to be ordering parts which will total to about $500 once all is said & done. I'm going to paint it soon too, which on the high-end should be $800. I paid $1400 for the car.Leave a comment:

I have about $5k in it since last May when I bought it, that includes new top, seats, wheels, brakes, springs/struts, and tons of other ball joints, bushings, gasket, maintenance and improvements.Leave a comment:

I voted without reading the question. I didn't include repairs, so that bumps me up from the 2-4k range to the 4-6.5kLeave a comment:

i have put 0 dollars into parts for my car over the last 3 years that ive owned it. i spent 80 bucks on 4 17" TSW imola rims and im into my swap about 400 bucks, so im totalling around 480 give or take a couple bucks. :DLeave a comment:

Not sure right now, but including getting my head rebuilt just after I bought it and snapped the belt (of course the weekend right before i was going to buy a new belt, tensioner and pump)...plus stereo stuff and all new suspension parts, somewhere far over 4k. I haven't done much, really.Leave a comment:

My wife keeps telling me I spent over $10,000 but according to my file, its only been around $5000. Top end rebuild, radiator, new(used) cloth top, exhaust, wheels, tires, suspension and some minor interior stuff.
Its all been worth it. I love it more than I did my E46.Leave a comment:

Alot of money being spent on their E30's, but you have to pay to play!!! So far with mods, basic maintenance, paint, ICE, wheels, interior, engine, suspension, etc....Im well over 17K... and another 5K being added shortly as I upgrade some items I didn't like..Leave a comment:

I've spent around $2500 in maintenance parts. I don't anticipate that figure growing any time soon, but a rebuild and repaint may be in the years to come.Leave a comment:
