actually an e30 seems like a great platform for rally, balanced, etc. however, when you already have one e30 that needs work, buying another to work on is a less than brilliant idea.......that $300 would go a long way towards his turbo project.
e30 not good for rally? PLEASE!!!! Besides the comment on Satch and others using the 325ix for rally racing (and I think Satch is getting back into again if I read my Roundel correctly), are you all forgeting the M3? Prodrive helped to build a rally M3 that competed in the '87-'90 seasons at limited races. Limited was mainly due to it being a privateer effort. So they picked the races that they would have the least disadvantages at, whihc meant mainly tarmac courses. They even won a championship event outright during the first year (although it was their ONLY event win).
But considering the outline that is being made for this car, it sounds less like a rally car and more like something to just have fun with out in the dirt. I don't know EXACTLY how big those tires are (not familiar with off roading sizes), but it sounds more like something to be found on a raised truck. I'm thinking that to clear these tires, you'll have to remove the fenders if you aren't going to be able to get the chassis up high enough.
And that seems to be the issue. You might end up running into the issue of the body still being too close to the chassis for the tires you want. You could cut the hell out of the fenders, but I'm not sure if you're really looking at doing that or not.
I'm not going to discourage you from doing this, but since others are sayingthat your current car isn't done yet, you might want to focus in it before going full strength with an offroader. I can see buying the car NOW, working on it later, esp since that's what I've done with mine. I currently have 4 cars (finally sold one), only one of which is the official project at the moment. Good luck!
SOMEBODY messed with my sig so now you get this one:
Rob, you need to stay up to date.
I guess some of us are just not waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles (read: you) enough to let some silly virus control our lives.....MONO OWNED ; )
and ANYWAYS, i didnt get the car....we couldnt get it to start and i told him that if it wouldnt start, i wouldnt buy it.....im sad...i had such great plans for it! (sigh)
the car done but its never finished...theres always other things i wanna play with on it, but my view of being done is being able to beat the fuck out of it without it pinging/knocking etc...and in that respect, its done.
