    should i buy this car

1970 or 71 mercury comet (basically a stripped down maverick)with a fresh rebuilt 302 v8 with less than 15k on it...straight body, a lil bit of surface rust...my boss says it doesnt have issues (although i would definately go over it with a magnet and inspect the floors closely) it's owned by an old lady he knows so it hasnt been all hot rodded...granted it does need a paint job...anyways...for only $400. and for those who dont know what this car looks like here's a few pics...

My answer is YES. And i'd paint it butterscotch. But i own a 72 Vega, so i could never say no to the compact cars of the early 70's

    1992 BMW 325iC
    1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
    1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 140hp

Mercury's are higher up the foodchain than Ford, so the Mav is a stripped down Comet.

      Lincoln>Mercury>Ford :D

Go for it, $400 for a V8. That could be fun to work on if it is not eaten by rust

If the body is strait and relativly rust free, do it.

yea i really miss my camaro i had in high school...

1970.5, lt1 350, vette l98 heads, half inch lift cam, bored 30 over, z28 snowflake intake mani, holley 750 double pumper, full legnth headers to dual flows, backed by a turbo 350 with a shift kit to a posi 12 bolt with 3.73s...best run 11.87@122 at sac raceway

had to sell it due to the fact she got 4mpg and was my oly car and could only afford 1 car at the time. neways got more money and got really into pre60s hotrods/lead sleds...but i've really been gettin bitten by the muscle car bug lately and my boss knows this (he has a super clean 69 camaro, 400hp 350) and another one of my co workers (69 charger rt clone, 450hp) so when my boss found this car he though it was perfect for me since i dont want a common muscle car...and its cheap and we could make it rediculously fast for pretty cheap...

anyways went and checked it out up close today with my boss during work...its got some door dings on the passanger side(not serious at all) the driver door is the only surface rust i found...i crawled around under the car and holy shit...you could eat off the undercarriage, not a rust hole or bubble to be found and the best part...its a 1 owner old lady car. booyah!! so i told him if she'll really sell it that cheap i'll take it and if thats the case i'll be mine next week...

downsides...its an ugly tan color, the dash is cracked pretty bad, and thew interior is shot...not really a problem since i was planning on gutting it anyways and running kirkey seats, full cage, aluminum door panels etc...

                    ok done typing now

For that kind of money, BUY IT. I dislike Ford products myself, but that is a deal no matter how you look at it. Those are getting to be pretty rare (along with Mavericks), also.
