    X3 or X5

I am going to get one of the other, I think. I am going to look at the X3's first, and there is a 2004 this week I will check out. What are you guys/girls thoughts on the X's? The 04 is a 2.5.

I need a SUV, so that is why I am looking *it snows here, and I have a family + a dog! haaha*.

The x3 is overall a well built little car. very rarely do they come into the shop for service. the X5 on the other hand is a beast in its own. Depends if you are looking at E53's(first gen) or E70's(newest). I imagine if you are looking at X3's you will probably be looking at 3.0 X5's. IMO if you get an X5 get the v8.

Umm, and also try to get a car with a warranty. you'll pay more, but warranty covers just about everything. THe worst complaint I've had with an X3 is the passenger side door not opening from the outside, but on the E53 X5's i see lots of complaints due to the cars age. On the e70, go V8 or go home! Its a very badass truck!

Nice! Good to know! I like the more space that the X5 offers...so we will see. I will go with the V8 if I go with a X5, that is for sure. I want a car that I do not want to mess around with for maintence - so you have me really thinking about the X3. Bottom line I need to drive them both. My wife wants me to get a Volvo XC70, but...well...it is not "me". Maybe it is "her". ;)

X3 is actually quite an enjoyable drive, I drive them every day to and from the gas station. I prefer it over any other new BMW, especially with the 6 speed. X5 is nice too, but feels its weight.

I've heard the exact opposite from a friend who works at a German repair shop. They see the X3 more often then the X5. I haven't ridden in or driven the X3, so I speak only through hearsay, but I've been told the X3 is much lower in the quaility department. The parts are cheaper, fit and finish is not so great (the newest X3's look well put together to me, though) and the like.

Again, just hearsay. Personally if I took either I'd want the real space in the X5.

I like the X3. I too get to drive it to the gas station when we sell one to a customer, since we fill up their tank for free. It feels like, and somewhat sporty. The X5 with the V8 just feels like a Beast. but I guess it depends on what you plan on doing with it. If you just want an SUV, I would go X3. I think they look better also... but I prefer 3s to 5s, and 5s to 7s. Plus, with the right very minor mods, like wheels, and possibly a more "Settled" suspension, I think itd be totally bad ass for a family ride.

I will probably get one within the next year, just because BMW employees get to lease one for $209 a month, so I may be biased lol =\

We had an X5 3.0 traded in at a dealership I used to work at. It had a chip or something done to the ECU for more power and it was surprisingly responsive. I generally hate SUVs, but this one was ok...

i'd much rather have an x5. i think x3s look if the x5 is too big or heavy i would get a touring with 4 wheel drive. i think bmw calls them sport wagons now. the 3 series wagons are roomy for a smaller car or something like an e39 wagon would be cool. i like the new wagon 5er 4 wheel drive and twin turbo; too bad it costs so much.

                    dont get either!

If you only need space to hold people, then there is NO need for an SUV. I see so many out there that clog up the roadways that are onyl carrying 1 person around. Not the mention the "4x4" capabilities that almost always never get used.

Get a 2001 7 series, my dad has one. It is totally badass. It is very quick and responsive for how big it is. And it has a ton of space inside and also a huge trunk.

but then again, thats just my .02

Clearly you didn't read my post reguarding family and sesonal driving in VERMONT. I get a kick out of the "warmer season" people telling me I will not use 4 wheel drive. I have lived in vermont forever, and use it all the time when it snows in the winter. I even use it in the summer when I go off road. Not sure how much off road I will do with an X series! haha! A 7 Series would not work for mud season, or heavy snow storms on our hills. I will add that I am also one to tow a small trailer with "toys" and make trips to the recycle center. I am not a prius driver, and I am not going to drive FWD cars - ain't my bag baby.

why would anyone haul a dog around in a 7 series, unless the guy has a lhasa apso in a juicy couture purse

SUV's are for pricks with more money than brains. on top of that, bmw suv is a contradiction.. just like a porsche suv..
