I think Honda would like to have Alonso driving for them because aside from being a very competent driver, he's demonstrated a technical side to him which helps the engineers sort out problems with the cars. Honda desparately needs a driver who can bring that kind of talent into their camp. I realize Ruben's is now officially the most experienced driver on the F1 grid, but I don't know if he has that technical insight like Alonso (or M. Schumacher for that matter) has. Ruben is a great guy - a real gentleman racer and a class act when out of the car. But lets face it, that isn't exactly what Honda needs to move up the grid.

I also feel that having Ross Brawn as team boss is going to be key in them getting turned around. When he joined Honda during last winters' break, the 2008 car was already well under development so Brawn couldn't provide much knowledge at that point - and as we know their lack of pace has relegated their '08 spec car as the official rolling chicane in F1 this year. Brawn, along with the engineers, will colectively get to start the 2009 car with a clean sheet....which they've probably already begun. And with radically changed car regulations for the 2009 season go, these guys will have just as much work to sort out as the other teams.

Hamilton jumped into an already fast car, not a lap marker like the ferrari used to be in 1995. He has show little development abilities, riding Alonso's race set ups. NOTE: Anyone notice how McMerc is running a very soft rear end this year?

He's good, no doubt about that. But i would put him 5th of 6th best abilities of the current drivers.

well i guess i'm in the minority here on liking hamilton. he comes off as a douchebag when he opens his mouth and needs to calm the fuck down on the first couple of laps, but watching some of his passes and car control abilities this year without the drivers aids has been pretty amazing.

On the other hand, Nick Fry over at Honda has been vocal about really wanting to get Alonso over to their camp. Honda may be slow, but they have a big budget - decisions, decisions. Which brings a third element into the picture - the F1 rumor mill is stirring some about whether or not Rubens will be racing in F1 next season. It may be post-season before we actually find out what happens.

Eh, I think Honda is just desparate for a replacement driver with some talent. They had been talking to Heidfeld for a while, and now they think it might be possible to snag Alonso if he doesn't stick with Alonso. For a "back-of-the-pack" team, their ideas sound a little exaggerated. Ideally, they should be watching the movers and shakers in GP2, Formula BMW, and the variety of Formula Renault series instead of focusing on stronger Formula One drivers whose 2009 plans are almost set in stone.

As far as Rubens, I hated to hear last weekend that he was wanting to keep his seat for 2009. I see this playing out like a Coulthard situation, and Rubens is a VERY un-Coulthard-like guy. He has always been quite classy, for Honda F1 to have to force him out of his seat would be quite a shame. Hopefully both driver and team will come to an agreement for the 2009 season, he seemed significantly stronger this season than the last few seasons.

z31, I haven't heard anything of the sort about Button. I'd say if either driver has it made in the Honda F1 shade, it would be him. Despite the fact that Button is 18th in the WDC and Rubens is 14th, I have heard talks about Rubens leaving the team since early May.

I wish Massa would of let Hamilton go. Look at the flatspot on his tire?!?! He would of HAD to of stopped.

And Sea Bass lost the back end. The second camera angle really shows it. He got up on the curb and the back end stepped out. Only reason he did not spin was because Massa's sidepod stopped him.

Agreed on Alonso, I've gained alot of respect for him this year. Last year, and this year to an extent, seemed to be the Hameelton cocksucking variety hour in the media and I think Alonso was made to look much more like a prima donna then he actually is.

True dat. You have to wonder what his recent success is going to equate to for 2009? Following the race at Singapore, it was mentioned that if Renault snatched 4th place or better in the Constructors championship then Fred Alonso would be staying on board (probably a decent bonus somewhere in there as well). Alonso owes a lot of his success to Renault from seasons past......you have to wonder if he feels like that team is the "right" place to be for him.

I have to agree with him (^). Trusting sites like PlanetF1, F1-Live, and the like isn't the smartest idea. I usually verify these types of statements with FormulaOne.com (about as unbiased as you can get.)

If you're asking me, Alonso could outdrive Hamilton with ease. He is a solid performer with a bit of an occasional attitude problem.

Ignore the last few because those weren't his fault, they can and have happened to many. But there are some good Hamilton only moments.

Just funny how you see someone like Alonso go to a team flat on there face, and within one season they are winning again.
But Hamilton still pushes way to hard, even when there is no point in it. He chocked out last year and with any luck he will chock out again this year.
Kinda a weird season, lost of mistakes by the big players yet only one of them is complaining every-time he gets in-trouble for doing something wrong.

Yet Alonso is the 'waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles' because he said something in a ether a mistranslated or potentially media spun article, on planet F1. Yes I said the article was incorrect with the translation One of the comments right underneath the article states the proper translation.

"Does anyone in PF1 double check translations or speak more than one language? AS reported: "¿Y qué le parece la sanción a Hamilton? No sé lo que hizo, pero bien penalizado está (se ríe)." This is translated as: "Don't know what he did, but he's well sanctioned (he laughs)." So it's a joke... that's all. Whether this is really bad journalism or it was done on purpose... Either way, it speaks really badly of this site."
