The problem comes in with creating precedent. They are penalizing for using an off to your advantage.

If they reverse it what is not to say someone just drives through one to catch up a little?

I'd agree if he was indeed better off than before he went off. He wasn't behind Raikkonen when he went off, he was beside. If he was behind him through the turn, outbraked himself and went off, then got a slingshot off the cut corner and had a greater speed than Raikkonen once he got behind him on the front straight, I'd agree. But the telemetry clearly shows that when he got behind Raikkonen, he was going slower. The subsequent repass was 100% from scratch.

When I first heard of the investigation I thought they were investigating Raikkonen. First he pushes the guy off the road, then he blocks him (he arguably did more than one allowed blocking maneuver, there were a whole bunch of side to side twitches) and then he hits Hamilton...

This is totally random but I was thinking about the recent races and here are the things I'd do if I was Bernie:

1: 2 mandatory pitstops, which must take no less than 20 seconds (except for emergency stops and penalties). This will eliminate any more bullshit with pitstop racing. No injuries for pit workers, and racing/passing will happen on the track.

Yeah lets take away strategy in F1.

2: If rain starts to fall beyond a slight drizzle, the race is redflagged, everyone comes in for intermediates or rains, reform based on running order as of red flag, formation lap and rolling restart. Similarly if it stops raining, to go back to slicks. Also set a visibility minimum, at which point the race is redflagged until its safe again.

Yeah, competition yellows like NASCAR, way cool. Again part of the strategy so teams can decide what risks they want to take. Remember Barrichellos podium after switching to Inter's? Yeah, lets get rid of stuff like that.

3: Remove engine restrictions of any kind. Use rotaries or gas turbines, I don't give a shit. This is F1, I want cool, fast and expensive, on a scale that would make the asshole of a national finance minister pucker up. If you can't afford it, buy a nascar team.

Yeah it will be really fun to see only 4 teams racing. It's awesome that STR is underfunded by a few hundred mil a year compared to the big dogs, and are still finishing in the points.


4: No tire manufacturer limits. If it meets the specs, it's game. Don't care if it's Bridgestone or Kumho.

YAY! More fiasco's like Indy a few years back.

5: Ejector seats. Seriously. They don't weigh all that much, just some rocket engines and a parachute. Senna would be alive today.

Wow if Kimi is willing to testify that should show the marshalls just how retarded the decision is. Some argue he took advantage then slowed down to pass him, but in all honestly he did what he should have done in order to save the car and maintain some sort of a shot at the flag. I hope they do something about the cockup...

Only a handful of drivers were running a HANS device prior to Earnhardt's death. We're talking like 3-4 guys. They weren't mandated, and he didn't "protest" it. He also wasn't the only guy to die due to a basal skull fracture. Adam Petty, Kenny Irwin, John Nemechek and Tony Renna all died of BSF in the 2 years prior to Earnhardt's death.

Earnhardt refused to wear a closed face helmet, as did a lot of the other "old guard' drivers.

Cool, I stand corrected. But before he died I saw a show on the HANS device and they said that it was uniformly adopted by all major racing bodies including NASCAR, with the exception of Earnhardt. I also read a quote from him that was along the lines of the HANS device being unnecessary technology (ok it's not a formal protest but that's not what I meant). So I laughed my balls off when he died from it...
