I just pissed someone off, need to vent...

So the windshiled installer just left my house with a slight attitude. I surely can say i helped but it was coming to him.
I didnt care for his attitude or his work and he appeared to know nothing about installing a bmw window.

Is there a wrong way to install the window? He didnt want to use any glue material, stating the gasket does the job. Then after i convinced him i wouldnt accept it w/o the glue stuff (he had some in the truck), he did a horrid job putting in the gasket (w/o glue) and had to take it back out to get it right, which is when i relieved him of his services.

Does this 'glue' go before and after the gasket or does it not matter?

I'm obviously going with another company this time though.

AFAIK, only the M3 used the adhesive. Normal E30s do not, they only have the gasket, which is infinitely preferable when you have to replace it again.

The installer I had do my windshield a few years ago used the adhesive - it took over 2 hours to remove all that crap, and I literally broke the windshield trying to remove it.

    Your installer was right.

          Oops, you made a boo-boo.

I have removed/replaced several e30 windshields. You dont use any glue - the gasket indeed does the job.

Helps to have the lock strip install tool or else you will be cursing with a soapy water covered spatula trying to get that bugger in.

Only the e30 M3 had glue in windwhields all other are held in place by the lock strip in the gasket

I would call with an apology... Depending on his character, you may have a comprehensive claim tomorrow morning.

No glue was used when they put mine but they did put a very small bead of silicone in under the gasket.

ooh. On a related note, if the window isn't glued, how do I remove it from the gasket? I already removed the lockstrip.

Anyone know where to get this tool or what it looks like? I traded out both front and rear windshields and had a hell of a time putting that lock strip back in. I never did get the rear corner pieces back in.

I bought mine from Bav Auto if I recall correctly. It didn't help much. I found it easier to just use soapy watter and a flathead screwdriver.

You already removed the lockstrip? Then it should just push out from the gasket. Carefully and slowly push from the inside and you should be able to pop it free from the gasket.

Once the lockstrip is removed, just press up from the inside and press the window out of the car. It will either push the windshield out of the gasket, or will take the gasket with the windshield. Either way, it's pretty easy.
